The morning sun peeked through the curtains, casting a warm glow across the room as I stirred awake. My body still felt the remnants of last night’s tension, but there was something calming about the quiet morning air. I pushed the covers off, deciding that a workout would be the perfect way to clear my mind.
Slipping into my workout gear, I made my way toward the gym, needing the solitude it provided. The spacious room was filled with state-of-the-art equipment and large windows that overlooked the gardens. I put
on my headphones, cranking up the music to drown out my thoughts as I began my routine—jogging, stretching, lifting weights, anything to release the frustration that lingered from yesterday.Minutes passed, and just as I was finding my rhythm, the door swung open. I glanced up, my heart sinking a little when I saw Bianca strutting into the gym. Her eyes immediately landed on me, and though I tried to ignore her, I could feel her presence like a thorn.
"Morning, Elena," Bianca greeted, her tone dripping with a saccharine sweetness that felt anything but genuine.
I nodded curtly, keeping my focus on my workout. I wasn’t in the mood for her games.
"You’re up early. Trouble sleeping?" she asked, feigning concern as she began stretching in front of the mirrors.
I didn’t bother to respond. Bianca's presence was like a persistent buzzing that refused to be ignored. She continued her stretches, her gaze occasionally flicking toward me, almost as if she was sizing me up.
"You know," Bianca started, her voice laced with an unsettling calmness, "I used to come here every morning with Enzo. He’d always spot me when I worked out. It was... comforting."
I shot her a sideways glance, refusing to let her get under my skin. "Good for you," I replied, keeping my tone flat.
She smirked, adjusting her ponytail as she looked at me through the mirror. "It’s just funny to think how quickly people can be replaced, isn’t it? One minute you’re the center of someone’s world, and the next... well, you’re just a shadow."
That was it. My patience snapped. I dropped my weights and turned to face her fully. "If you have something to say, Bianca, say it. Stop talking in circles like some desperate schoolgirl."
Bianca’s eyes narrowed. "Oh, I have plenty to say. Like how Enzo always finds his way back to what’s familiar. You’re just a phase, Elena. He’s allowed me back before, and he’ll do it again. History has a way of repeating itself."
I stepped closer, my anger bubbling just beneath the surface. "I’m not you, Bianca. I don’t need to cling to someone who clearly doesn’t want me."
Bianca’s expression turned cold, and she stepped forward, closing the distance between us. "You think you’re so special, don’t you? You think you’re different from everyone else who’s ever been in Enzo’s life. But let me tell you, sweetie, you’re just another temporary distraction."
