The sirens blared through the streets in the quiet neighborhood, and almost synchronically, as if done in practice, did the lights of each resident flickered on to reveal the curious and worrisome expressions on their tired faces. Weary eyes followed the sounds of screams and chaos and soon turned to discover the burning house just a few blocks away from them. Through the pitch darkness of the night, many people could be seen rushing out of the burning house, wearing revealing clothes, some looking quite intoxicated, and some even rushing out with bottles of alcohol still in hand. It was clear as glass that this house had held a party hours prior to the incident, and an even clearer glass to tell why it burned down in the first place.
Soon enough, the police had arrived at the burning house, along with the fire trucks making swift work on the rising flame. At this point, the thick black smoke rising up to the twinkling night sky made a pretty good Christmas tree had it not been the middle of August. Many people rushed out of the burning house, screaming in terror, even drunk did they had the brains to run away, while some stayed close by to record the devastating scene. Or as they rather called it, viral worthy footage.
The firemen quickly worked to put out the fire and salvage whatever could be salvaged from the ash ridden house. But even when the fire had been extinguished, it was pretty easy to tell the only thing Jayus could bring out of it was the clothes on his back. Red eyes stared at the now incinerated house, nose scrunching in anger as his face twisted in a darkened expression. Jayus had lost everything in one night, even though everything that happened was against his decisions, he had to pay the price for it. It was then did his boyfriend, Xan, approached him for the very first time that night, wearing that ever so cheeky grin that Jayus used to find cute. Now it just annoyed him.
"It's going to be okay, Jayus. You'll find a new place to stay in soon." Xan offered his careless words as comfort and wrapped his arms around Jayus. Frozen in place and unable to push away those arms wrapped tightly around him, Jayus could only breathe out an air in disbelief. Xan was shameless. Very much so. Which made Jayus wonder how he could have tolerated Xan so much through out their entire relationship.
"What about I stay at your place?" Jayus asked coldly, already aware of the answer.
"You know I'm not allowed to have people over at my apartment—" Xan started to explain. Having had enough of this repeated bullshit, Jayus snapped back.
"Then why did you let Genevieve stay at your place?"
Xan stepped back, a bit thrown away by the sudden confrontation. Jayus had never once questioned his actions before, so his insistent attitude came out of nowhere for Xan. He wavered for a bit but continued to hold his stance. He stuttered a weak excuse which was immediately turned down by Jayus.
"Because she's a close friend! She really needed me then, and it was only for a few nights. You know this so why bring it up again?" Xan was now getting nervous by second. But no matter what words slipped past that mouth of his, Jayus strained to roll his eyes. Although it is true, Genevieve is a close friend of his, even way before Jayus had been in a relationship with Xan. Despite being in a relationship, Xan had always put Genevieve first and treated her better. Jayus was just foolish enough to turn a blind eye to it. His red eyes rolled to the back of his head in annoyance and he grunted. Before another word could be said between them, Jayus clenched his fist and sent it flying to Xan's cheeks, leaving the pathetic man landing on the ground with a loud thud. Fortunately, everyone else had been too preoccupied with the ongoing mess to focus on their fight. Astonished and now holding his bleeding face, Xan could only stare at Jayus retreating figure.
Jayus mumbled curses all the way to where the ambulance had parked and tended to people who got injured in this whole event. He let out a breathy sigh and clutched his bleeding arm. During his entire exchange with Xan, not once did he ask if Jayus was alright. He didn't even notice Jayus had gotten hurt when the fire started. Didn't even notice his arm was bleeding while he was trying to argue with him!
The next time that prick shows his face I'll skin him alive.
And Jayus meant that with every bone in his body.
As the nurse tended to his wound, he sat on the back of the ambulance. Fortunately, no one had been seriously hurt and no casualties had occured. On the more unfortunate side, Jayus watched with weary eyes as a police officer made his way towards him.
Oh great. Jayus thought, sarcastically."Mr. Adamil, I would like to ask you a few questions. May I confirm that this house is yours?" The officer asked, hands on his hips to appear more friendly and approachable. "That's right." Jayus answered, shortly.
"Mr. Adamil, when I was your age, I was also as boisterous as the lot of you. And all these parties, and the alcohol, and the night life— I understand it all. So please feel free to talk with me." The officer said, waving his arm off to appear like a chill adult, making the nurse tending to Jayus arm flinch as he held back a laugh. Jayus already knew where this conversation was headed. The accident happened at his house. It was apparently 'his' party. The officer was supposing this was his to take the blame.
"Alright," Jayus sternly said, a glare evident in his weary eyes. "This was my house, Yes. But this wasn't a my party. My stupid ex threw this party at my house without my consent! If anyone's to blame, it's him!" Jayus now began to snap. All the weariness in his body was now getting to him. All the stress and alarm started to ring in his ears, and he began to see red all over.
"I didn't want all this to happen in the first place! So why do I have to deal with all this shit!?"At his sudden outburst, the officer merely raised a hand, unfazed. "Are you sure? Your parents are always away on a business trip, isn't that every youngsters dream?" The officer pressed further, "If you could just give me a statement, then I'll be on my way and we can progress through this much more smoothly." The officer didn't seem to take him seriously even after what Jayus had said. Even so, there was no testimony that Jayus could pull out of his pocket to get himself out of this predicament. Everyone intoxicated and high on something were smart enough to already ditch the scene. Even Xan had somehow pull himself off the ground once police officers began to get involved. This night could not have gotten worse!
In Jayus last bit of sanity, he loudly exclaimed in a fit of rage and blind hatred. "Then take this as a statement!"
Needless to say, Jayus was not proud of what he had done next.
