In walks a redhead in a green bikini.
I felt a little bit of anger rush over me, since she knows she's not allowed in here past closing time.
God, this is the exact scenario I had envisioned, and the only one I didn't want to become true. However, the sight of Miss Sanders in a bikini was enough to make me blush furiously. My cheeks felt like they matched her hair.
"Do you know what I'm going to say?" I, very casually, say.
"You're not allowed to be here past closing time." she says, very clearly mocking me.
Marc, ever the smooth talker, flashed her a charming grin. "Hey, Zienna." he greeted casually, as if it was the most normal thing in the world for my English teacher to show up at my workplace.
So, Zienna is her name? That's pretty.
She returned our greetings with a smile, her eyes twinkling with amusement. "I hope I'm not interrupting anything."
"Oh, no no, nothing else than us closing." I say sarcastically."Great." She made her way to the edge of the big pool. I couldn't help but steal a glance at her. She looks so good... is that too much to say? I swear, there was a magnet in my eye or something, because I felt like it was impossible to look away.
As Marc and I settled back into our own conversation, the presence of Zienna made me a little bit more nervous, I think. She seemed so different outside the classroom — relaxed, even. She wasn't as serious.
She dipped the tip of her toes into the water, testing the temperature before carefully sliding into the pool. She swam a few leisurely laps, her movements smooth, as if she were gliding through the water effortlessly. Marc and I watched in silence like we've never seen a woman swim before.
After a few moments, Zienna floated over to the edge of the pool nearest to us, propping her elbows on the side and looking up at us. "So, what are you two doing here? Besides working, of course." She asked, her tone light and friendly.
Marc and I exchanged a quick glance before Marc spoke up. "Just unwinding after a long day, really." he said. "Had to save a bunch of teddy bears and deal with some kids pretending to drown. You know, the usual." he stated. What the fuck does he mean with, the usual? We do that 2 times a week, maximum. Funny, it's the same kid every time...
"Sounds like you've had quite the adventure." She chuckled.
"It wasn't that hard, we do it often." I hopped on his, stupid lie.
"That doesn't matter, it sounds like you both did a great job." she said, her voice softening as she did.
Her words made me smile. It felt good to be acknowledged by someone I never thought would really care about anyone. For a moment, I allowed myself to drown in the glow of her praise, letting it wash over me like water.
As the conversation continued, I found myself relaxing more and more. Zienna was easy to talk to. Just her being there was soothing and reassuring, because then Marc couldn't make fun of me. We chatted about everything and nothing at the same time. School, hobbies, movies, all that kind of stuff. It was surreal, sitting here by the pool, talking to my teacher like she was an old friend of mine.
Eventually, the topic shifted to the future, and Zienna's expression turned to interest.
"So,what are your plans after high school?" she asked, her gaze shifting between Marc and me.
Marc leaned back, folding his arms behind his head. "I'm thinking about going into engineering," he said confidently. "Always been good with my hands." he said before shooting me a look.
"Ew, disgusting!" I pushed him playfully, as he just laughed.
Zienna joined him with a chuckle. I'm surprised she even understood the joke, she doesn't seem like that kind of person.
"What about you, Dahlia?" she asked after Marc had finally managed to shut up.
I hesitated, unsure of how to answer. "I'm not really sure yet." I admitted. "I like music, but I'm not sure if that's something I can turn into a career."
"You'd be surprised, Dahlia. Sometimes, the things we love the most can lead to the most fulfilling careers. Don't be afraid to follow your passions." she smiled, her eyes kind.
Her words instantly flew to me, and I felt a flicker of hope. Maybe she was right. Maybe there was a future for me in the world of tunes.
I snapped out my thoughts as I felt a hand push me softly. I looked at Marc, and he was smiling at me.
"It's not nice to stare, especially not at your teachers." He commented. Zienna started giggling silently, and I pushed him into the pool.
"Don't mind him, he can be a real bitch sometimes." as I realized what I had said, my hands flew to my mouth. She began laughing even more, while I covered my face in embarrassment.
"It's alright, everyone swears once in a while." She assures me, making me smile. We make eye contact, and she doesn't break it right as we do.
"I better get going." She muttered before getting out of the water and taking her towel.
"Yeah, we better get home too. I say while looking at Marc. Marc gets out of the pool and grabs his things before going into the changing room.
I turn off the outside lights and scroll a bit on my phone before going into the womans changing room. Seeing my teacher half naked wasn't my best decision, so I decided to give her some time before going in there.
Somehow, I still ended up seeing her from behind. Not my favorite view... maybe my second favorite, but that doesn't matter right now.
"Shit, okay," I mumble before turning around, my back facing her. "Sorry."
"No need to apologize, we're both women." Zienna laughed softly, her voice warm.
Despite her reassurance, I felt a wave of awkwardness wash over me. I took a deep breath and forced myself to relax, reminding myself that this was just a normal, slightly uncomfortable, situation.
"You can turn around, I'm decent now." she said gently.
I turned back around slowly, my face probably still red. Zienna now wrapped in her towel, her hair damp and tousled. She gave me a reassuring smile, making the whole situation feel a little less awkward.
"Long day, huh?" she asked, trying to break the ice.
"Yeah, it's been pretty crazy. It was nice talking to you earlier." I nodded, feeling a bit more at ease.
"I'm glad. It's good to talk things out sometimes." She smiled warmly.
I nodded again, feeling a sense of gratitude for her understanding.
As we continued to chat, the awkwardness gradually melted away. We talked about everything from school to our favorite books. It felt surprisingly normal, almost like talking to a friend rather than a teacher.
After a while, she glanced at the clock. "I should really get going now," she said. "But it was really nice talking."
We said our goodbyes, and we both left.
I sat in my car, thinking for a bit before turning on the loud engine. I connected my phone to my car before driving off.
