You stood there, heart pounding, as the weight of his words sank in. You belong with me. The sentence echoed in your mind, stirring something deep inside you—a feeling you couldn’t name but couldn’t deny either. His eyes, dark and unwavering, held a kind of sadness that wrapped around you, tugging at something long forgotten.

“I don’t understand,” you said again, your voice quieter this time, more unsure. The pull you felt toward him was undeniable, and yet, everything about this felt wrong. You shouldn’t know him, yet the way he looked at you... it was as though he was seeing you after years of separation, like you were someone he had lost and had been desperately searching for.

“You will,” he said softly, his voice filled with a certainty that made your skin prickle. “But not yet.”

“Not yet?” you repeated, frowning. “What does that mean?”

He seemed to hesitate, as if debating how much to say. Then, with a quiet sigh, he took another step closer. This time, you didn’t back away. His proximity was overwhelming, but instead of fear, it filled you with an odd sense of calm. Like part of you knew he wouldn’t hurt you.

“I can’t explain everything now,” he said gently. “It’s not safe. But you have to trust me.”

You blinked, confused. “Safe? What are you talking about?”

His jaw tightened, and you could see the conflict in his eyes. He wanted to say more—needed to—but something held him back. After a long pause, he finally said, “You’re in danger, Y/N. The longer you stay here, the more dangerous it becomes.”

“Danger? From what?”

He shook his head. “I can’t tell you yet.”

Your frustration flared. “You can’t just show up, say things like this, and expect me to—”

“I know it’s hard to understand,” he interrupted, his voice urgent but still gentle. “But please believe me when I say I’m trying to protect you.”

His words hung in the air between you, and despite the confusion and frustration swirling inside you, something in his voice—his eyes—made you pause. He wasn’t lying. At least, he didn’t seem to be. But why? What was this danger he was talking about? And why did he think you were involved?

“I still don’t understand,” you said, your voice a little softer now. “How do I know I can trust you?”

For the first time, a flicker of hurt crossed his face, but it was gone as quickly as it came. He glanced down for a moment, then back at you, his expression unreadable. “Because I’ve been looking for you my entire life. And because...” He hesitated, his voice dropping to a whisper. “You’re the only person I’ve ever loved.”

Your breath hitched. His words sent a shockwave through you, something deep and powerful stirring within your chest. Loved? How could he say something like that? He didn’t even know you—or at least, you didn’t know him.

But even as you tried to wrap your mind around it, a part of you, hidden deep beneath layers of forgotten memories, felt the truth in his words. It made no sense, but it felt right. As if this wasn’t the first time you had heard it.

Your hand instinctively went to your chest, the weight of his confession pressing down on you. “I... I don’t know what to say,” you whispered.

He stepped closer, so close now that you could see the depth of emotion in his eyes—something raw and desperate. “You don’t have to say anything,” he replied quietly. “Just... come with me.”

“Come with you?” you echoed, shaking your head. “I can’t just leave. I have a life here, friends...”

“I know,” he said, his voice pained. “And I hate that I’m asking you to leave it behind. But it’s the only way I can keep you safe.”

“Safe from what?” you asked, your frustration returning. “You keep talking about danger, but you won’t tell me what’s going on. How am I supposed to trust you when you won’t explain anything?”

He looked away for a moment, his expression tight. “It’s complicated,” he muttered, almost to himself.

“I don’t care if it’s complicated,” you snapped, your own frustration boiling over. “I deserve answers.”

For a long moment, he didn’t speak. Then, with a heavy sigh, he met your gaze again. “You’re right,” he said softly. “You do deserve answers. But I can’t give you all of them right now.”

You stared at him, your heart pounding in your chest. “Then give me something. Anything.”

He hesitated again, his jaw clenched. Finally, he took a slow breath and said, “You’re not who you think you are, Y/N. The life you’ve been living—it’s not the whole story. There’s more. So much more.”

Your blood ran cold. “What do you mean?”

“There are people out there—dangerous people—who are looking for you,” he continued, his voice low. “They know what you are, even if you don’t. And if they find you, they’ll use you for their own purposes. I can’t let that happen.”

“What I am?” you repeated, shaking your head. “I’m just... I’m just me.”

He gave a sad smile. “You don’t know the truth yet, but you will. Soon. And when you do, you’ll understand everything.”

Your mind was spinning, the weight of his words crashing down on you like a tidal wave. Dangerous people? What you are? Nothing made sense, and yet, deep down, something about it all felt... right. Like a puzzle piece sliding into place, even if you couldn’t see the full picture yet.

You took a shaky breath. “And you’re saying you can protect me?”

He nodded. “I’ve been protecting you for years, even if you didn’t know it.”

Your eyes widened. “What? How?”

His expression softened. “I’ve always been close by. Watching. Making sure you were safe.”

You couldn’t believe what you were hearing. He had been watching you—protecting you—without you even knowing? How was that even possible?

“I don’t expect you to believe me right away,” he said quietly. “But I’m telling you the truth.”

You stared at him, your mind a whirlwind of thoughts and emotions. A part of you still wanted to run, to get as far away from this stranger and his cryptic warnings as possible. But another part of you—a deeper, quieter part—was drawn to him. Trusting him, even when logic told you not to.

Finally, after what felt like an eternity, you spoke. “If I come with you... will you tell me everything?”

He nodded slowly, his eyes filled with hope. “I promise. Everything.”

You hesitated for just a moment longer, then took a deep breath. “Okay.”

His expression softened with relief, and for the first time since the ball, you saw a flicker of something like happiness in his eyes.

“Thank you,” he whispered. “I won’t let you down.”
