The next morning, Mia got up and got ready for work.

As she was picking out an outfit. Her phone buzzed. She glanced over at it seeing it was a text from
messiah.

Messiah
Gm ❤️
I'm pickin you up this morning?

Mia smiled at the message. She replied with no. She hadn't even told her she got a new car yet. It wasn't intentional; she just hadn't been in the right headspace to share much of anything lately.

Yesterday's drama had her feeling drained. After the mess with Cj and that group chat, she'd gone to bed early, ignoring her phone, and both Cj and Messiah. She still couldn't shake the feeling that she hadn't done enough to defend Sahara, but she also couldn't face CJ's wrath. Arguing with him was always a losing battle.

And as much as she hated to admit it, she didn't want CJ thinking that her defense of Sahara meant she was on some sneaky business. She knew it was ridiculous—how she still cared about pleasing him, even when he was being toxic—but she couldn't help it. No matter how messy things got, she loved him. And that love made her feel stuck.

Her phone buzzed again, breaking her from her thoughts.

Messiah
Ight 😕

She sighed. He could probably sense that something was off, but she wasn't ready to talk about it yet. Not with him. Not with anyone.

Mia put on a simple skims outfit, not really in the mood to dress up today, and headed out the door. She was already exhausted, and the day had barely begun.

At work, Mia took her usual seat at her desk, trying to focus on her tasks

At work, Mia took her usual seat at her desk, trying to focus on her tasks. She'd passed by Messiah's office earlier, but it had been empty.

A notification popped up on her screen—a message from Messiah.

Messiah
You good?

Mia stared at the message, her fingers hovering over the keys. She wanted to reply, wanted to vent, but the words just wouldn't come. Instead, she typed out a short response.

"Yeah, just tired."

It was a half-truth, but it was all she could manage.

"Ight imma be working on this system for a couple hours then for lunch we gone go out. That's cool?" He replied

Mia smiled at her phone, feeling a little warmth creep into her chest despite everything that was weighing her down. Messiah had a way of doing that, making her feel seen even when she didn't want to be. She replied with a simple "yes," even though deep down she wasn't really in the mood to go out today. But with Messiah, things were different. He had a way of making her feel like everything might be okay, even if just for a little while.

Her phone buzzed again with a follow-up message.

Messiah
Bet. Ima text u when I'm done ma

As the morning passed, Mia did her best to stay on task, but it was harder than usual. Her mind kept flipping between the incident yesterday.
