Grace
"Carl?" I whispered.
"Grace?" He whispered back.
"Yeah?" I asked.
"Why are you sneaking out of the RV at night?" Carl asked.
"Same question goes to you." I said.
"I was figuring out where you were going, idiot." He said.
I laughed. There were those butterflies again, "I don't know why I'm out here." I admitted.
"Bullshit." Carl said.
"Woah Carl." I said, surprised by his language.
"Sorry..." he said.
"Don't be, it's funny." I told him.
Snap. A noise emerged from nearby.
"Carl we gotta get back in the RV, cmon!" I whisper yelled.
I ran back in quietly. Then there was pounding and growls at the RV door. There weren't any other adults in the RV, it was just the kids. Who's terrible idea was that? It was just Carl, Sofia, and I.
Sophia bolted awake and started crying in reaction to the walker outside.
"Shh! They'll hear you!" Carl hushed Sophia.
"What do we do?" I asked.
"I'll kill it." Carl said.
I pushed my arm in front of him.
"No Carl, you won't! It's dark and you don't have a lot of experience. Neither do we. We'll be toast!" I said.
"I have an idea. But let's be quick. Before it gets in!" I said as I pulled them away to the bathroom.
My plan was for all of us to climb through the escape exit and go up to the roof. From there we would throw empty cans at the adults cars to notify them that we were in trouble. As long as we don't scream or make a lot of noise, we'd be okay.
Carl and Sophia pushed me up and through the escape latch. I made sure that they locked the bathroom door. Then Carl pushed Sophia and I pulled her up. We both helped Carl up.
We each had a can in our hands, ready to throw.
"Okay, let's go for your parents car first." I whispered to Carl.
I tossed the can at Lori and Rick's car.
Rick got out carefully with his gun in hand. He saw us kids on the roof and rubbed his eyes. I motioned to the other side of the RV and made a walker impression. He nodded and woke Shane up.
They walked closer and motioned us to all lie down on top of the RV. We obeyed and layed down flat for a few minutes.
Rick then shook the RV a little to let us know it was safe to get down. We climbed back into the already locked bathroom then heard a growl outside the door. We quickly climbed back up.
"Rick! There's one still in there!" I said as I leaned over the top.
He entered the RV and we heard a grunt. He had killed it, but he was now removing the walker's body from inside.
"What if this will just draw more?" Sophia asked.
"That's a great question..." I said.
"It could... but we just gotta be quiet." Carl said.
Then an odd thought came into my mind. Shane had been acting really weird around me and especially Carl since Rick came back.
"Carl." I whispered into his ear.
"Yes?" He whispered back.
"Shane's been awfully weird since your dad came back." I said.
"Yeah he has. What do you think that's about?" He asked.
"Maybe he feels like he's not in charge anymore." I suggested.
"Maybe." He whispered and turned his head.
"When can we get down guys?" Sofia quietly asked.
"When Rick says we can." I said.
A few moments later I saw Rick's head popping up to us, he grabbed each of us and pulled me back down.
"You guys were very smart to go up here. I don't know what wouldve happened if you didn't." He said, "I'll be staying in here with you kids for the rest of the night."
We all went back to sleep and woke up in the morning.
Glenn walked up to us smiling.
"Hey, nice job last night! So smart, what you did with the cans." He patted me on the back.
"Thanks." we all replied.
Carl and I rushed off to Lori as Sofia ran to Carol.
"Hey mom, guess what we did?" Carl said excitedly.
"What did you do?" She asked.
"We escaped walkers last night and everyone is proud of us." I said.
"What?" Lori asked, gasping.
We both told her everything that happened the prior night.
"Why, you kids are very brave! Now cmon let's eat. And stay away from walkers." She said.
We had all gotten back in our vehicles to start driving again. We were headed to this place where we thought there would be answers. By we, I mean Rick. Rick thought there would be answers where we were headed.
Then we arrived. This huge building. That said "CDC" on it. There were lots of walkers outside and it was turning dark. I felt a little bit scared. I think Carl did too.
Thx for reading! I'm starting to make the parts shorter bc I feel like they are too long. Lmk! The next 2 chapters will be about the CDC btw! Enjoy 😉
