The ashes recompose and the fire goes out, the same cycle, nothing ever changes: first your body crumbles, it falls to the ground in a thousand grains of black ash, letting the wind guide you, then all of a sudden, the ash comes closer, joins together, dancing on itself as it is sent flying through the leaves of the forest, until it's all over and you emerge from behind a tree.
Being a half phoenix has its advantages sometimes, you are practically immortal, but at the same time you are constantly in contact with death, now you live with total tranquility, no one could make you fear disappearing, simply ceasing to exist one day.
Or at least, you're not sure if the Phoenixes can really die, since your father simply disappeared, your mother says he's dead, but you don't really believe it, he can't really die, maybe he simply decided to abandon you: who can blame him? In short, you are immortal creatures, you can't waste your time with animals that could get sick and die from one day to the next, even if you care about them deeply.
It was your mother who explained your enormous gift to you, the first time it manifested itself you were at a party in the village, all of a sudden your heart started to hurt, your vision was blurry, you looked at your hands and saw fire, large flames that circulated your hands and continued to rise rapidly; from there everything is black, you simply woke up in tears while all the inhabitants looked at you scared or worried.Your mother was the wisest lamb of the community, an intelligent priestess, sweet and caring towards everyone, despite her own daughter being an "anomalous" crossbreed: the weight on your back has always been great, how can a sacred figure give light to such a creature? A crossbreed never seen before, a lamb and a phoenix, circus stuff, not normal, bizarre, all the words I heard around me.
Your mother often took me to pray with her, to offer gifts to your protectors, the five bishops of the old faith, protectors of our lands, each with a different territory, maintaining a balance that we could define as perfect among those woods: in particular, in freedom of faith governed the village, each family was more than free to celebrate and adore the bishop who felt closest to their personal thoughts and objectives. Your mother was an exception, since she had had the approval of the people, she used to show her devotion to all five bishops without any distinction: by doing this, everyone appreciated her and she managed to maintain peace among the followers who lived in the village; once a week she went to the altars and gave them sacred objects, gifts or sacrifices, most of the time you followed her, sometimes at her invitation, other times secretly.
You followed her crawling through the bushes in silence, or at least you tried, since you were often caught either by your mother or by the bishops themselves...You Poke your head out of the bush as you watch your mother leave a basket of gifts at the feet of the leader Shamura, the greatest of the five bishops:
"Take this, this evening we would also have a sacrifice if this is not enough",
"Don't worry, faithful lamb, what you do is already enough for me and my brothers" Kallamar, Heket, Narinder and Leshy peek out from behind the spider bishop.
"My lords" your mother lowers her head, "if I had known you would come too I would have brought something extra for all of you",
"All this is already enough, we know how to share" Heket takes the basket from the ground while she lights up a smile, Leshy senses something hovering around them: he looks left and right, then asks,
"You didn't come alone this time either?" Your mother turns around as you fall out of the bush and land face first in the grass making the five bishops smile; you spit out some dirt, get up and straighten your clothes."I'm sorry mom" you apologize with a slight smile, Leshy approaches you and, touching your head, makes a red flower grow, "you're always welcome among us little flame" Kallamar behind him rolls his eyes, "now you're exaggerating though Leshy-",
"Not at all, it never bothers you to see the little one around" Shamura gestures back to his younger brother as you move closer to your mother and lower your head.
"Mom tries to make me stay at home, but I like coming to you" you look at the creatures much taller than you, all five of them smile slightly except for Kallamar, who gets a dirty look from Narinder, "you'll become a great woman one day" says Heket looking at you confidently,
"Come visit us whenever you want little flame, you never disturb" adds Leshy; finally, Shamura concludes "thank you for your devotion, now you can go", then your mother thanks them, takes your hand and drags you away while you wave goodbye to the five brothers as if they were your friends.
At the time the bishops were, if we can define them that way, small, we are talking about a very, very distant era, they must have only been around a hundred years old each, they were more humble, this does not mean that they preferred to be treated as common beings, they were simply much more open to understanding than the mortal mind.**************
