Round in Circles

I really felt like I was just going round in circles. This wasn't the first time she had hit me; but I was really hoping it was the last.

It was morning now, and I woke up to a throbbing in the side of my face. The rest of the flat was still empty luckily, so I got up and went downstairs to the freezer to grab some ice. I wrapped it up in a tea towel then pressed it gently against my face, wincing as I did so. I slowly walked back upstairs to get ready, as I still had paper work to give back to the bank and I had to move in tomorrow. The thought that I would be in my new flat in 36 hours sent relief rushing through my body.

36 hours to freedom!

I got my back pack and started packing up what I would need for the day. As I did so, I noticed my ukulele on the top shelf. I gently lifted it down and took it out of its case. It had been so long since I'd had the will to play it. I still couldn't. It reminded me too much of him...

Once I was showered, dressed and my bag was packed I got out my make up bag. I looked in the mirror, make up brush in hand.

"Fuck" I whispered to myself.

This was going to be a difficult task.

20 minutes later I had finished my make up. I'd had to avoid the deep scratch on my face as it was far too sore to put any make up on. Let's just hope no one asks any questions.

My alarm went off. 7:00am.

Moving day!

I'd packed most of my stuff up last night, but I still had some stuff to do. I quickly got up, had a shower got dressed and put on a little make up. I tied my hair up to as I didn't want it getting in the way whilst I was sorting everything out.

2 hours later and I was done sorting through the last of my stuff. It had just gone half 9 so I decided to ring Gary.

He picked up straight away.

"Hey Katie, the flats completely ready, I've just been over to double check everything. Are you ready?"

"Yeah I'm completely packed! The sofa is arriving at the flat at 1, so I wondered if it was okay to start moving my stuff over right now?" I replied politely.

"Of course! I'll bring my car round to the car park near your flats, I have the address on your forms."

40 minutes later we had all the boxes in Gary's car and were arriving at the flat. We started to bring the boxes in. Luckily there was a lift! Unlike my old flat.

Old flat. Wow that was nice to say!

The doors of the lift slid open smoothly and I quickly walked out.

BANG!

Oh no not again! That's the second time in three days that I've bumped into someone!

"That's the second time in three days! You ought to be more careful" a familiar voice chuckled.

CHRIS.

"Oh sorry! I didn't see- I wasn't looki- I- Hi, again, sorry" I stammered. I could feel my cheeks heating up.

"It's fine honestly, let's just say we're even okay?" he said with a reassuring smile.

"Here, let me help you with your boxes. I never got to buy you that coffee so consider this your payment"

He lifted the boxes out of my arms before I even had a chance to reply. He was such I gentleman! Guys like that are hard to come by..

I smiled and led him down the corridor to my new flat. As soon as I walked in he dumped the boxes down.

"What have you got in there?! Bloody hell Grace it like you've packed your entire life into those boxes" he laughed, pushing back his slightly curly chestnut hair to wipe his forehead.

"Well I basically have, I'm moving everything out finally"

She chatted for the next 5 minutes, until Gary came up with the rest of the boxes.

"I'll see you soon then, I'll pop by, see how you're doing" he said sweetly.

"I'd like that, I'll see you soon" I answered, grinning slightly.

He smiled back and turned to walk out the door. He was gone.

I thanked Gary for helping me, handed him the rest of the paper work and then started to un-pack.

OH MY GOD MY FACE.

Why had no one said anything?? I quickly grabbed my mirror out of the top box and looked at my reflection. I had an ugly red scar forming, and Chris hadn't even flinched when he looked at me, he hadn't said a word.

I wonder why?
