Carl
When I heard someone get out of their cell I jumped off the bed as silently as possible. Since I had been sleeping for God knows how long, I wasn't tired at all yet.
"Maggie?" I whispered.
"Do I fuckin' look like Maggie?" Daryl hissed at me from a few cells down.
"Sorry, it's the hair Daryl." I joked.
"Your hair's getting a little long, princess."
He loves pissing me off, doesn't he?
"Soon your girlfriend will have the shorter hair and the bigger balls." He joked.
"Oh shut up." I was mad.
I mean he wasn't wrong, a trim wouldn't hurt. I liked the long hair and I knew Grace did too. But I didn't want it to be too long.
Then I did see Maggie leave her cell.
"He lives!" She whispered to me, "Glad you're back kid."
"Maggie? We need to talk." I responded in a serious tone.
"Ok, let's go somewhere away from the sleepy heads." Maggie teased.
We went into our dining/kitchen/ whatever area and I told her all about what happened with Grace.
I left out a fair amount of details if you know what I mean.
I told her about the conflicting feelings I was having about telling Grace.
"Wow. We didn't really notice any of that Carl. She only acted confused when she first woke up but she never said anything after that. She just kinda waited in the bunk under you for days.." she started.
"Oh.
Well Maggie I don't know what to do. What do I tell her? What can I even say? 'Some creepy guy touched you and get this, I blew his brains out right in front of you. Oh and FYI you'll be scarred for the rest of your life.' Or do I just be all like 'yeah girl I just didn't wanna tell you so I hope you enjoy forgetting 6 mostly good weeks of your life.' Jesus Maggie I don't know what to do!" I started getting louder with anger, but quieted myself as I didn't want to wake anyone."Well first of all, don't say any of those things. They're pure shit. And as much as it hurts me, I say tell her. Because maybe it'll help her. She'll know how to help others who have experienced something similar and she'll know what to do if... God forbid that happens again." Maggie said.
I knew she was right. I walked back to my cell to see Grace, awake.
"Grace?" I asked quietly, trying to grab her attention.
"Yeah?"
"I think I should tell you.."
"Carl, be easy about telling me okay? You made it seem like a big deal. So please, go easy on me."
"Of course. Just this time." I teased, trying to lighten the mood.
So I told her what I saw, what I did, and what followed. She just sat there staring blankly.
"Grace?" I asked. Did I do something wrong? What was happening?
"I remember everything now Carl. Everything. I remember how I feel about it after time has passed. It still hurts, it never won't, but I'm doing so much better. Thank you for telling me Carl." She said.
"I'm sorry I didn't tell you right away. I didn't know what to do. I thought maybe you would want to forget it."
"I do, but not at the expense of forgetting all of that." She said.
