I put up a further notice on our door and on our social media that KopiKopi would be closed next week. A renovation for third floor and now the people were packed upon hearing the notice.
"I'm leaving out of town." Eugene said while we were brewing coffee.
"Are you going back? Can't that wait for next week?" I ask.
"It's urgent. I'll still be an employee, right?" He asks.
"Your promotion will be delayed."
Then, Styx came inside with a suitcase, our conversation was cut when he places the briefcase on our cashier desk, opening it and there, thousands of pesos were inside and looked at Eugene.
It easily drew attention, Styx went down to his knees and I felt second hand embarrasment, "I'm sorry for damaging your car. I know a sorry cannot compensate but--"
Eugene was about to scold Jazz not until he noticed Potato get outside in rollerskates, instead of the usual teasing, he was looking at her with admiration.
"It's fine. It was just a rolls royce." Eugene says and lifts Styx up, keeping his cool while side-eyeing Potato. I look at Jazz and he was smirking.
Potato looked back at Eugene who seemed confused when he said it was fine, Jazz spilled me the situation last night and I, too was stunned. It was in complete detail, he even switched seats from where Eugene and Potato was just to try to re-enact their chaosness.
"Just a rolls royce." Potato says before serving the customers their coffee, swaying gracefully and orderly. The people from 2nd floor has to come downstairs when their order is ready whilst the 1st floor has a server, as pros and cons of my KopiKopi.
"Really?" Styx says and it was too late for Eugene to make a double face, "It's fine. I accept your apology bro." He pats Styx and takes off his apron.
"You should replace me, i'll gone in a few weeks." Eugene looks at me, "What do you think, Heart?"
I look at Styx, "Part time, is that okay?" He says, "Kailangan ko din bumalik sa trabaho." At ako na ang nagtanggal ng briefcase sa cashier desk, locked it back and put it on a safe place.
"Great! Problem solved." Eugene says and turns around to look at us, we bid him a farewell and Styx looked at me with eagerness.
"Well, we look understaffed at the moment." I say while taking a look around my cafe.
"You got it." Styx put on Eugene's apron and went at the cashier, I observed him and he knew how to take orders with manners and a smile, "Welcome to KopiKopi, happy to serve your coffee!" He automatically said, as if he was used to it.
I didn't question him, he probably had a background of being a cashier, to be clear, he was even stealing customer's from Jazz' line because he was swift too, it's like he'd been doing this for years.
"San mo naman nakuha yang pera mo?" Tanong ko sakanya.
"Nagloan ako ng 1 million sa pag-ibig."
"Gago ka talaga." At nagtawanan kami.
"Pahinga ka na. Ako na bahala." Styx says lightly at Jazz and glances at me, he gave a knowing wink and I grinned.
Jazz pushed himself away from the counter and pats Styx' back and walks up to me, "Date. It's on me." He immediately says.
I've promoted Steffani to be the assistant manager, just far from now, we had hired more employees who'd brew and shift round the clock, we weren't really understaffed, I just tested how Styx would react, and he sure lived up to it.
