Staring at you, he frowns a little. You're relatively new to the guild and, undeniably, the prettiest girl to ever join. Your e/c eyes could easily kill him if he were willing to catch them-unfortunately, he is not.
With that charming smile of yours, you sit with your face in your palm as you talk to Loke, prettier than the average girl should be. Even though you're talking to someone else, his heart is beating faster than what's healthy. Now, if only you would look at him that way.
Then, unexpectedly, you look over at him, eyes meeting his. They shine a bit, making his heart stop altogether. With a curt nod, you go back to your conversation with Loke. Look at me. "Gray!!" calls a familiar voice.
Not bothering to look, he replies, "Yes, Mira?"
"I  think I have a perfect mission for you!"
"Oh?" He finally steals a glance at her.
She's grinning.
"Which is?"
She holds up a paper. "They're in need of some ice. And I know just the person to go with you." "All right. Who you thinking?"
"Why, our little Y/n, of course!"
"Y/n?" He sneaks a little glimpse at you. You're still talking to Loke. "Why her?"
"She uses moon magic."' She slides into the seat beside him. "The mission requires help with some weather conditions. However, the area is really dangerous. It's not safe to send you alone. Also, the moon has lots to do with the tides, which is another thing. They think that there's a wizard tampering with their weather. You're both pretty level-headed and strong. Besides, you two should get to know each other! She's single and actively searching!"
"But he's not!" declares a girl with blue hair. "He's mine!"
She grabs his hand, though he shakes her off. "Hands off!"
When you joined Fairy Tail, you seemed very shy and reserved. When leaving the guild hall, you always had a sad look in your eyes. It was alarming, and still is to this day. He doesn't know why, though. Most people are happy to go home.
"I heard my name." Suddenly, you're right beside him, staring at Mirajane. "I've gotta know. Are you saying good or bad things about me?"
"Good things, of course!" exclaims Mira, smiling "I was just telling Gray that I have the perfect mission for the two of you!"
"Gray?" You say his name slowly, as if it's a foreign word.
Dropping your gaze to him, you flutter your lashes, peering at him with big eyes. "Is that you?" "Yeah." he says, forcing himself to sound tougher than he actually is.
"I don't think we've met I apologize. I'm still getting acquainted with everyone."
"Right. I'm glad to see you've finally stop putting off our introduction."
"I haven't been putting anything off." Innocently, you tilt your head to the side. "It just takes awhile to meet everybody. Sorry if I made you feel left out."
"You didn't." He doesn't like how that has to be a lie. He did, in fact, feel left out when you talked to everyone but him.
"Good." You look to Mirajane. "When do we leave?"
"I think it can wait 'til tomorrow!"
"'All right, tomorrow it is." Casting a seductive glance to Gray, you say, "See you tomorrow. Let's head out kinda early so we're not traveling all day."
You walk away. His eyes linger on you, unable to look away. Crap, what kind of spell is she using?

"Morning." You say, yawning a little. "Ready to go?"
"Yeah, I'm ready. Let's go."
A little skip in your step, you make your way for the train, him trailing right behind you. You're awful perky for someone embarking on such a simple mission.
So, he asks. "What's got you all excited?"
You turn around to face him, now walking backwards. "This is my first mission as a guild member. I'm excited. Ooh, guess where I got my emblem. I know yours is on your chest, because you're constantly stripping, but I bet you don't know where mine is."
He looks your over. You're clothes are very conservative. Long pants. a sweater tucked into them. Boots. Only part of your neck is even out. If only he could get a glimpse of a little more. "Half on your shoulder, and half on your neck."
You startle a moment, but recompose yourself quickly. "What makes you say that?"
Shrugging, he goes, "Just a hunch."
"Well, your hunch is correct."
"Do I get a prize?"
"Hmm-.. is there something you want?"
"You. Show me. Your emblem. I mean, Later, of course." He hates how stupid he sounds.
He notices your eyes drifting off to the side. "Sorry, I can't. My..my boyfriend wouldn't let me." "Boyfriend?"
"Yeah. He- he kinda sucks." Avoiding his eyes, you continue. "He's really controlling and treats me like crap."
"Why don't you leave?"
"I would if I could, However, I'd rather not get locked away like Rapunzel."
"Y/n, do you need help?"
You turn back around, obviously not wanting to look at him anymore. "I'm fine."
"Obviously not."
"Just drop it."
"Y/n."
"How do you think the mission will go?" Your voice is in a bit of a perkier mood, though he can tell it's fake.
"Don't change the subject."
"This is my first mission, so I'm a bit nervous." You hold your arms, as if you're cold. "I really hope to impress Master Macerov. I'm working really hard, you know. Mira insists that my magic is really strong, but I've got no experience."
"I'm surprised that controlling boyfriend of yours let you join a guild."
"I wonder who's behind those weird weather patterns. And why."
"Stop avoiding this, Y/n."
"Do you know what kinds of food they eat there? I really like-"
He grabs your shoulder, "Y/n, stop."
Looking away from him, you deflate. "I'II be fine. I'm leaving Fiore soon, anyway."
"What? You just joined-"
"I know. That's the point. He won't suspect I'm leaving. I'll lie and say I'm out on a job, but not come back. Master Macerov already knows."
"So. you're just abandoning all of us?"
"It'll be fine." You start walking again. "All that matters is that I get outta here."
"Fairy Tail will miss you.'
"You'll move past it." You square your shoulders back.

Having just arrived in the village, Gray takes you to your lodgings. Since you're helping them, they're lending you both a tent to share, apparently under the impression that you two are 2 a couple. He didn't protest, but instead, nodded in appreciation and led you to the tent.
It's quaint, though nice enough. Since there's only one sleeping bag, he'll settle for his jacket. After all ice make wizards don't get cold.
"Well start by observing the perimeter." Gray says to you. "See if there's anything notable." "Okay, sounds good."
"First, we'll get some sleep tonight. You can take the sleeping bag. I'm good with my jacket since ice make wizards don't really get cold."
Nodding in understanding, you give an, "Okay."
"Right,"' He starts stripping for bed.
A shrill squeal from you rips through the air. "Keep your clothes on!"
"I can't sleep like that! I can barely be awake with them on!"
"For the love of- you are trifling!"
"Sorry to hear. I'm only the one taking the uncomfortable floor for you to be a gentleman is all." He sprawls out beside the sleeping bag. "And have offered to help you multiple times. Terrible, right?"
"Precisely." You climb into the sleeping bag, curling into a ball. "I'm exhausted."
"You poor soul."
"I know. You should sympathize me."
Despite what you say, he can see how wary you are around him. More than likely, due to that pathetic boyfriend of yours, you're nervous around men in general.
"Good night, brat."
"Good night, pervert."
"I'm not a pervert."
You snort in response, though remain silent afterwards. Then, there's soft snores coming you. Gray stares at you, studying every feature of your face. Your lips. Your eyes. Your nose. Every little blemish. Markings. Up close, you're even prettier than he thought. It's a shame you already have a boyfriend. And a crappy one, at that. If only you were single. He could make a move already.

After days of searching, you've found nothing. The only thing Gray has realized is that he's developing a stupid crush on you, even though you're not available. In which, it wouldn't be so bad if you didn't constantly giving him more reasons to like you. It's like this was some plan of yours. Like you want to break his heart.
Sitting in his usual spot, Gray watches as you braid your hair for the night, "When are you leaving?" he asks.
"After this mission." Your mouth becomes a straight line.
"So soon?"
"I need to get out of Fiore as soon as possible. Three years, Gray. Three years. I can't do it anymore."
"I know. I'll just miss you. "
"You'll forget me soon enough. I plan to just disappear. As if I never existed."
'You can't do that with Fairy Tail. Once family, always family."
"Doesn't matter to me."
"Don't you care about us at all?"
Eyes softening a little, you avoid his gaze, "Of course, I do. You guys have been great. But I have to protect myself first. I'm not that stupid. Freedom comes first."
"What if I could protect you?"
"Well, you can't, and I don't see the point in 'what ifs'."
"Y/n, whoever that guy is. I'll take care of it."
"He's a strong wizard, Forget it. He doesn't even know I'm a wizard. And he doesn't need to. When I'm around him, I use a spell to hide my emblem."
"Where does he think you are right now?"
You shrug. "He thinks I'm part of a merchant guild and I'm out for work." You drop your head back. "I never wanna see him again."
Leaning over, he grabs your hips and pulls you closer to him.
"What are you-"
Avoiding your question, he places a kiss on your lips, taking in the feel of you. Your hips beneath his hands. The taste of your mouth. All of it. As he takes it all in, he starts drowning in you, desperate. Hungry for more, he pulls you into his lap, pressing you against him. Why do you feel so good? He needs more of you. Already, he' grown so addicted to you.
He starts to kiss down your jaw, but you pull away from him, eyes lowered in shame. "Gray, stop. This isn't right., I. I'm still with him and-"
Cupping your cheek, he turns you back to him. "Forget about him. You don't plan on seeing him again, anyway. Whatever you two had together is over."
"It still-"
"Tell me honestly. What is it that you want? If you say you want me, then I will make a way. I will find a means for us. You just need to say the word."
"I'm scared." you choke out, tears welling up in your eyes. "I don't wanna take the risk."
"Y/N. Does it matter what I want?"
"Of course, it does. If you tell me that you genuinely don't want me, then I'll never bring it up again. But-"
"Even if it's a subtle attraction-"
"I'll make it work."
"Obviously it's more than just a subtle attraction. Then what is it?"
You put your face in the crook of his neck. "I really like you, but-"
"Then I'll figure it out. Put some trust in me."
"It's scary."
"I know."
"You won't be like him, will you?"
"Never."
"F- fine."
" Wonderful." He kisses you again. "Let me see your emblem. You still owe me."
"Mh--I'm not really... you don't wanna see-"
"What? Do you not have anything on under this sweater?"
"I have a tank top, but-"
"Then lemme see."
Shyly, you shift and pull your sweater up. It goes over your head and drops to the floor. You do, indeed, have a tank top on. It's a high-neckline with thick straps, You pull the right strap to the side, revealing your full tattoo. It's black and right where he guessed it to be. Feeling a little bold, he leans in and presses his lips to the very center of it.
"Thank you for showing me."
"Gray, what does this make us?"
"What do you want this to make us?"
"I'd hope something more than friend."
He laughs a little. "'You can be my girlfriend, so long as that's what you want."
"N- naturally."
"Since when are you shy?"
 "Shut up."
"All right, all right. I have one last question."
"How annoying will this be?"
"I just wanna know if I'm still expected to sleep without a blanket of any sort."
"I'll mull it over."
A smile tugs at your lips, drawing his attention right back to them. "I should probably go to bed soon. Should get an early start tomorrow so we can finish up this freaky mission."
"Right-."
You still haven't moved. Finally, Gray, still holding your hips, falls to the floor and crawls into the sleeping bag with you. Wordlessly, he buries his face into your neck, feeling the thrumming of your heart against his chest.
0.0.o.o.
For days, you and Gray have been flirting around, already in a somewhat normal relationship. It all comes naturally for the two of you, While looking around to find clues, you'll hold hands and tease each other. For Gray, it almost feels as if the two of you have been together for years. As of right now, the two of you are curled up in the sleeping bag. you tracing the tattoo on his chest with your fingertips.
"I can't believe there's been no progress." you mutter lazily.
"I wonder who the heck is messing with this little village."
"We'll find them soon. Today, lets explore that cave."
A look of horror flashes upon your face as a shadow falls over the two of you. Confuses, Gray cranes his neck to find a man standing there, nostrils flaring and face contorted in rage. He's the ugly sort, for sure, but his eyes are on you, clearly unhappy with the arms wrapped around you. With a squeak. you retract your hand from Gray's chest and scramble up, head hanging low. Still perplexed, Gray follows suit.
"Who might you be?" asks the ice wizard.
"Doesn't matter. Y/n, we're going."
Things click in Gray's head, so he grabs you by the waist. "So you're the abusive boyfriend. She's not coming with you."
"I wasn't asking you. And while I don't know what she's told you, I'm not abusive. This is just one of her little stunts for attention, is all. If you come now, Y/n, we can forget all about this."
"Not on my watch." Gray stands up, shielding you behind him. "How did you even find her." "That's not important."
"You're the one behind the strange weather patterns, aren't you?"
"So what? Just hand her over and I'll call it quits. Deal?"
"No deal. I'll  kill you before I'll let you take her-"
Now on your feet, you say, "It's fine, Gray. It's fine, I'll go."
"The heck are you!" Still staring the man down, Gray proposes, "Let's have a one-on-one. That's fair enough. You're a criminal and should be arrested anyway. If I win, you go with the police quietly and without a fight. If I win, I let you off the hook and Y/n's all yours. Deal?"
"All right, fine. Deal."
"Gray, I'm not that important-"
"This isn't just about you. I couldn't avoid fighting him anyway, since he's the one behind this mission."
The three of you make your way outside, a bit further out of the villages bounds. The moment that Gray has stopped walking, the man is already rushing at him, using fire magic. Not skipping a beat, Gray makes an ice hammer in an attempt to crush him. It only gets your boyfriend's foot, which has him screaming. While he was distracted, Gray goes in and stabs him in the arm with sharp ice. Then in the thigh. Already, the man is immobilized.
"So", Gray says, "This is over. I'm taking you back to Fiore to be arrested."
"Who are you?"
"Gray Fullbuster, of Fairy Tail. Also, Y/n's boyfriend."
