As Sian awoke, memories of the previous night quickly flooded through her mind. She sat up abruptly, her eyes darting around the dimly lit room, seeking any sign of familiarity or danger. The opulent surroundings, with their dark elegance and heavy drapery, seemed foreign and unsettling. Panic began to rise within her as she realized the enormity of her situation.
As she turned her head, her heart pounding in her chest, she saw Victor sitting in a chair next to the bed. His presence was both a comfort and a source of anxiety. He watched her intently, his eyes filled with a mixture of concern and regret. She took a moment to steady her breath, trying to make sense of the conflicting emotions that churned within her.
"Good morning," Victor said softly, his voice soothing yet carrying an undercurrent of tension. "How are you feeling?"
Sian stared at him, her mind racing. The memories of Matt, his transformation, and the terrifying events of the night before were all too vivid. She felt a pang of sorrow and betrayal at the thought of the man she had loved being lost to the darkness. And now, here she was, alone with the very vampire who had caused it all.
"I... I don't know," she admitted, her voice trembling. "Everything is so confusing. Matt... what happened to him?"
Victor sighed; his expression pained. "I made a terrible mistake, Sian. I turned him, thinking it would be a fleeting amusement. Unfortunately he lost himself to the darkness and became dangerous. Eventually he would have become a threat to me and I can't allow that."
Sian's eyes filled with tears as she tried to process this revelation. "Why? Why did you do it? Why couldn't you leave us alone?"
"I thought it would be... entertaining," Victor said, his voice tinged with regret. "But I was wrong. I never should have involved you in this. I'm truly sorry, Sian."
She hugged her knees to her chest, feeling a mix of anger, sorrow, and fear. "What will happen to him now?"
Victor leaned forward, his gaze earnest. "I took care of him. I made sure he can't hurt anyone else.
Victor's gaze grew even more sombre. "I have already reversed Matt's transformation. He's no longer a vampire."
Her eyes widened in disbelief. "You changed him back? How is that possible?"
"I realized the depth of my mistake and took immediate action to correct it. He is human again, just as he was before."
Tears welled up in Sian's eyes, a mix of relief and overwhelming emotion.
Sian's breath caught in her throat. "Will I ever see Matt again?" she asked, her voice barely more than a whisper, laced with hope and fear.
Victor's expression grew even more solemn, and he shook his head slowly. "No, that isn't possible," he said softly.
The words hit her like a blow. "Why?" she demanded, her voice rising with emotion. "If he's been changed back, why can't I see him?"
Victor sighed deeply; his gaze unwavering. "Because I want you, Sian," he admitted, his voice filled with a raw honesty that sent chills down her spine. "I've realized my mistake, but my feelings for you are real. I can't let you go back to him."
Sian's eyes widened with a mix of shock and anger. "You're keeping him away from me because you want me for yourself?" she asked incredulously, her voice trembling with rage.
Victor's eyes darkened with intensity. "Yes," he said simply. "I know it's selfish, but it's the truth. I've lived for centuries, and I've never felt this way about anyone. When I saw you, I knew I couldn't let you go."
Tears streamed down Sian's face, a mix of sorrow and fury. "How can you do this to me?" she cried. "How can you take away the man I love and expect me to be with you?"
