Kyan
I was really starting to feel like a jackass now. Maybe I was wrong for what I said to Hazel.
She left school early three days ago and she hasn't been here since. She won't text me back or answer my phone calls. I knew she wasn't feeling well, but I thought I overheard Olive say she was feeling better. If that's true, why isn't she at school? Is she avoiding me or something? It's been almost a week since I said what I said. I thought girls got mad and then they got over stuff in a couple of days?
"Yo'! Kyan!" Thad exclaimed, bringing me out of my thoughts. "You good?"
I sighed. "I feel like a bum ass for what I said to Hazel."
"Go fix it then. Dumbass." He rolled his eyes and ate a fry.
"You gone quit talkin' to me like I'm a lil bitch." I side eyed him. We stared at each other for a couple of seconds and started laughing.
"But seriously." He said after we settled down. "You was on my ass about fixin' it with Olive, and now I'm on yours."
"It's not the same." I shook my head.
"Nigga, how it ain't the same?"
"You actually like Olive like that. I don't like Hazel like that."
He looked at me before laughing. I scrunched up my face in confusion. "You just as confused as I was."
"Shut the hell up. I ain't you. All women are the same and I won't ever have real feelings for any of these broads."
"So why do you feel like shit?" He asked, looking at me closely. "Why do you regret saying something THAT YOU MEANT ..... if you don't have any feelings for her?"
I rolled my eyes. "I don't regret it. I just regret how I said it."
"Listen, I'm Thad. Thad knows what people are scared to admit. So what, you feelin' Hazel. All woman won't treat you how your mom treated you, man. There are actually some good, genuine women out there and you'll never know if you keep treatin' them like a nigga you just made a drop to and he tried pay you half of what he owed."
I kissed my teeth. "Shut yo' poetic head ass up."
"You checkin'?" He smiled and I shook my head.
"Nah man." I smiled innocently. We didn't speak after that and he kept eating his food. I finally decided to ask the question that's been nagging me for the longest. "How's Hazel?"
Thad smirked at me and then his face fell. He frowned a little. "She's sick man. It seems like she's gettin' worse."
I felt a weird ass feeling in my chest, close to my heart. I scrunched up at the feelings and sighed.
"I'll go see her today." I nodded and Thad playfully pushed me.
"That's my nigga." He smiled and went back to his food.
After school, I went by the flower shop. I didn't know if she liked flowers or not, but it's worth a shot. I picked out a bouquet of one hundred blue tulips. I thought they were unique and pretty and I had never seen anything like them.
I stopped by the Chinese restaurant and got her favorite food, sweet and sour chicken with a Pepsi.
I knocked on the door and the weird feeling I felt earlier moved from my chest down to my stomach.
Olive opened the door and stood in the way. "What?"
I cleared my throat and took a deep breath, trying to stretch my patience. "I'm here to see Hazel."
