How can a life full of chaos change into something good for people to take away your peace all over again? To leave them in the darkness with no light to guide them. Cause a life without purpose is not a life worth living. This pain that we feel is always going to be on top, so try being strong, but it's how we take that pain and move forward. You can't just hope that everything is going to be easy. It's easier for you to lose your light when all you are given is pain. Well, it's time that we look past all this pain and all this sadness and find our light."Emily, what are you doing?" a deep voice, with a small hint of a Spanish accent from behind me, asks. As I turn, I am met with this tall, muscular body with this dashing smile and dark brown eyes. "Nothing, just thinking, Blake," I reply. Blake is the football captain at our school, James D. Mountain High. I know the weird name for a school.
"I know you, you're stressed about something, for you have been sitting outside the school for the last hour and a half. But I'm glad, though, because I can give you a ride home." Blake always loved helping me out. He is my best friend and has been since we were little, his parents and mine have always had a good relationship while we were growing up. So naturally, as we grew up, we became insuperable. "I thought football practice was supposed to run late today. What happened?" I looked at him, confused. Football practice was always two and a half hours long; the coach was big on making sure the boys could run the plays the right way before ending the practice. If they don't get it right, they would have to run extra laps around the field and practice more until they got it right.
"We were able to learn the play faster today. The coach didn't have this big trick play that was super hard, so he let us out early. He did warn us to stay out of trouble tomorrow or practice will be our worst nightmare." He rubbed the back of his neck with a worried look on his face. We all know that the football team is always causing trouble around the school. Especially the freshman on the team. They always make the team suffer with what they do outside of practice or the games.
"Don't worry; I'm sure the boys learned their lesson from last time. I'll take up your offer on that ride, but please, for the love of god, play something that I like to listen to for once." I pleaded with him. Blake likes that hard rock or some form of ghetto music. I would much rather listen to some old-school R&B, like the 90's and 2000's old school. "Or you could at least give me aux for the car ride.
"Fine, anything for you, girl." nudging my shoulder as he agreed. "But we have to wait for Jaelah and Jexiel they should be getting out of the art club any minute. That way, we can all stop at the dinner for a quick meal. So we all know that you had something to eat. Ok?" He looked down at me with pity in his eyes. I hate how everyone knew about my family situation. I was always looked at as weird after my parents started to drink a lot and do drugs. When we needed the help before they were bad, everyone just ignored us. I guess it's because my twin brother died when my parents were having an argument over us and who we were hanging out with. They hated me; they never wanted a little girl, just my brother. Until last year, no one knew about the torment and abuse my parents were putting me through. My brother was my protector, but someone had given him laced edibles when we were just turning 14. It's been about three years since he died, and ever since that day, nothing has ever been the same. But let's not dwell on the past.
We can't change what happened, but I like to wish that I could. I hope it was me who had died, or maybe it would have been better if I hadn't been born. Even though wishful thinking gets us nowhere, it's what we do that makes living worth it all in the end.
"Yeah, that's fine..." I said, looking at him. Then, all of a sudden, my whole body gets crushed by this face from behind, knocking me over onto the ground. "What the actual fuck?" My whole body was in pain, this giant waiting on me was killing me.
"Sorry, I didn't mean to crush you Em. I just wanted to hug you." A soft voice whispered as they got off and sat on the side of me. Looking over, I see my friend Jaelah. She is this beautiful African American girl with crystal blue eyes and long, thick, black curly hair. She is the most beautiful girl in school. She's also known as the biggest heartbreaker in school. I know stocking, right, usually, it's a boy who is the biggest heartbreaker. But no one has ever been able to keep Jaelah for more than a few months before she gets bored and moves to someone new. There is one boy in school, though, that no one, not even Jaelah, has ever been able to get with. Victor he is this drop-dead gorgeous 6'8, muscular man with these memorizing hazel eyes. He's the only boy in school that is untouchable. He's not the most open person, but enough about him right now.
"Hey, Emily. How long have you been sitting out here? You know that school ended an hour and a half ago, right." This voice with a thick Spanish accent said, sounding confused. I looked up to see Jexiel with a confused look on his face. All my friends know that once school ends, one of my parents, that are sober, will come and pick me up. "They never showed. I'm pretty sure that Mom is still in rehab for the next three weeks because she relapsed while being in the program. Dad is probably in a ditch somewhere, but I'm not entirely sure." Honestly, I'm scared that my father is on the couch drunk because if I wake him up, then I'm most likely going to beat me.
"Well, then let's get you something to eat and then bring you home," Blake said with a sense of urgency. He knows how bad my parents can be, especially my father. There has only been one person to witness the beatings I have gone through, and it was him. The only reason why he knew this was because he was my brother's best friend, and one day, they came home too early from football. Walking into the house at the wrong time, he had seen my father beating me to the point where I couldn't move anymore.
"What dinner are we gonna go to?" Jaelah said with excitement.
"The only place we go to is Sammy's Dinner," Jexiel said, rolling his eyes. No matter how many times we tell her Sammy's, she always asks the same question. It gets annoying, but it's funny. Sammy's is the best place to get food in town. The dinner is only five minutes away from the school, so the ride will be quick.
"Alright then, let's go, and don't worry, guys, I'm not the DJ today," Blake said while he grabbed his car keys. Blake drives this all-black modified 2018 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat with extremely tinted windows. This car goes from 0 to 60 in 3.65 seconds and one-fourth of a mile in 10 seconds. Plus, if you're really good, you can get to top speeds of 203 miles per hour. Blake comes from a family with a lot of money, so naturally, his parents got him his dream car. With all the money he had also saved from his job, he modified his car. We all piled into his car, I connected my phone to his radio and started to play some random playlist I had saved.
As we pulled off, I couldn't help but feel alone even though I was surrounded by people. I focused on the surrounding area as we drove away from the school. We live in this small town surrounded by the woods. I watched as the trees became a burl, and the lights on the street started to turn on. The sun is setting along the forest lining. How such a peaceful scenery can make anyone get lost in its beauty?
Pulling up to the dinner, I noticed that it was more quiet than usual. "What do you think is going on? The dinner is never this quiet, no matter what time of day it is. " Looking around at everyone in the car, we all had the same confused look on our faces. Everyone in town loved coming to the dinner. It's the one place in town that will give you a meal even when you can't pay for it. It's not the big of a town either, so everyone knew everything about everyone unless you were new to town, which is why we were so shocked to see the dinner as quiet as it was.
"I don't think it would be a good idea to stay here if it's this quiet. I'll just take you guys home. I'm sorry, but I don't trust how everything is looking right now." Blake had this nervous look in his eyes, which is something you never see from him.
"Yeah, let's just go home," I said. He dove off to bring me home first, knowing how bad it can be if I'm out too late.
