The ground beneath Frisk's feet was cold and unyielding. Their eyes blinked open to an unfamiliar sight—a cavern, dimly lit by faint flickers of light that danced across the stone walls. The air was heavy, thick with a sense of mystery and something else Frisk couldn't quite place, something... different. They sat up slowly, their body stiff from what felt like an eternity of lying still.
As their eyes adjusted, they noticed a soft glow emanating from the center of the cavern. Frisk cautiously pushed themselves to their feet, brushing the dust from their clothes, and approached the light. It was unlike anything they had ever seen—a crystalline object floating just above the ground, shimmering with a multitude of colors that seemed to shift and swirl with every step they took.
Their heart raced, a strange pull drawing them closer to the crystal. They felt its energy vibrating in the air around them, beckoning them forward. They reached out a trembling hand, hesitating just inches from the surface.
Before they could touch it, a familiar voice broke the silence.
"Whoa there, kid. I wouldn't do that if I were you."
Frisk spun around, eyes wide, to see Sans leaning casually against the cavern wall. His hoodie was different—glowing lines of blue traced patterns along the sleeves, and his right eye pulsed faintly with a swirling aura of light. He had the same laid-back grin, though something about him felt... heavier, like he carried the weight of a thousand lifetimes.
"Sans?" Frisk asked, their voice barely above a whisper. "What is this place?"
Sans straightened up, the faint light from the crystal casting shadows across his face. "You've stumbled into somethin' big, kid. That thing right there? That's the Chrono Crystal. Pretty shiny, huh?"
Frisk glanced back at the crystal, still pulsing with energy. "What does it do?"
Sans sighed, the weight in his voice matching the gravity of the moment. "It messes with time. Changes things. You ever wanted to go back and fix a mistake? Or maybe see what the future holds? This thing can do all that and more. But it's dangerous. Real dangerous."
Frisk's hand dropped to their side as they turned to face Sans fully. "Why me? Why did I find this?"
Sans shrugged, though his expression was more serious than Frisk had ever seen. "Dunno. Maybe it was just your time. Or maybe," he said with a smirk, "you're the only one who can handle it."
Frisk swallowed hard. The idea of controlling time... it was too much. But the temptation lingered in the back of their mind. What if they could undo everything that had gone wrong? What if they could prevent the pain, the suffering, the mistakes?
"What happens if I use it?" Frisk asked, their voice tinged with uncertainty.
Sans stepped forward, his grin fading slightly. "You change things. Sometimes for the better, sometimes not. But once you start messin' with time, it gets messy. One little change can ripple through everything. You might fix one thing, but break ten others in the process."
Frisk looked down at their hands, clenching them into fists. "So what do I do?"
Sans tilted his head slightly, his glowing eye flickering. "That's up to you, kid. You can walk away, leave that crystal right where it is, and keep living your life. Or..."
"Or?" Frisk echoed.
"Or you take it," Sans said, his voice dropping to a near whisper. "You take it, and you see where time takes you. Just remember, once you start down that path, there's no goin' back. Not really."
Frisk's mind raced. The power to change everything... or the risk of losing control of it all. The Chrono Crystal hovered there, waiting. It was an impossible choice, but one they felt compelled to make.
With a deep breath, Frisk reached out once more, their fingers brushing the surface of the crystal. As soon as they made contact, a surge of energy shot through their body, filling them with a strange, exhilarating power. Images flashed before their eyes—timelines shifting, lives unfolding and rewinding, countless possibilities laid out before them.
The world around them began to warp and twist, the cavern fading into a blur of color and sound. Time itself seemed to stretch and bend, as if the very fabric of reality was being pulled in different directions.
And then, just as suddenly as it had begun, everything stilled.
Frisk stood in a different place, though it felt oddly familiar. The air was quieter here, the light softer. They glanced down at their hand, still glowing faintly from the crystal's power. They had taken the first step.
"Well, kid," Sans said from behind them, his voice softer now. "Looks like you're in it for the long haul."
Frisk turned to face him, their heart pounding. "What now?"
Sans chuckled, though there was a sadness in his eyes. "Now? Now we see what you've gotten yourself into."
With those words, Frisk felt the weight of their decision settle on them like a heavy cloak. The journey ahead would be unlike anything they had ever faced. Time was no longer a straight line—it was a web, and Frisk was standing at its center.
And now, every choice they made would ripple through the timelines, shaping the future of not just themselves, but everyone they had ever known.
