''i've had enough of matt today.'' dylan muttered, exhaling the blunt he held between his two fingers. ''he's been a total ass.''
''he's always an ass, dyl.'' blair said doubtfully.
''yeah - but even more today.'' he continued. ''he called me a stoner freak who needed to get a hobby that didn't involve making the entire school smell...i didn't even fucking look at him.''
blair rolled her eyes, taking the blunt from him as she pushed further down the wall. it was lunch, and the three of them were sitting outside round the back of school smoking. they knew they shouldn't, but it had been a rough day.
rougher than usual.
matt was always a dick but he had been even worse today. snapping at practically everybody, making mean comments about others who walked through and finding new ways to torture his usual victims.
he had been especially mean to tate - even with his brothers and crew telling him to back off and leave her alone. he told her she was weird and always in everybody's way. he tripped her when she was hurrying with her backpack so that everything fell out and he called her ugly.
she tried to shrug it off, but the words carved deep into her soul. it felt worse today than other days because she thought maybe he would start being nicer. they had shared a teeny, tiny moment when he saw the burn on her arm - tate knew they did - but clearly it didn't mean much to matt.
because now he was back to his usual horrible self.
''i think harlow pissed him off.'' blair said, her voice tight from holding in the smoke. ''i haven't seen her and matt together all day.''
''i did in tech.'' dylan replied. ''he had his arm around her shoulders but it just looked...awkward. they were literally talking to different people, facing away from each other.''
tate shrugged. ''harlow doesn't like him that much.''
''i think it's the other way round.'' dylan said. ''i know how guys act and matt is not into her.''
''i don't really care what matt likes.'' tate continued, rolling her eyes. ''him and harlow are both horrible...they don't deserve anybody else. matt treats all of his friends like shit and throws them away when he doesn't need them anymore anyway so harlow is probably on her last chance-''
''woah.'' blair began, but she was cut off.
''-and when she ruins it, he'll throw her to the side and probably move onto the next. i mean, him and bella are like best friends and everybody knows it and i just really don't get it because, yeah, bella is really pretty and sweet but what about me? why aren't i enough? just because i look gothic? because i have red hair? it's just...''
