It was a dark but surprisingly calm night. As I was driving home from my horrible job as a waitress, I noticed a small girl sitting on the side of the pavement. I raised my foot from the gas pedal and finally the car came to a halt, stopping by the girl. I got out my car to approach her slowly, and as I did I noticed she was crying.
"Hi, my name's Emma. What's your name?" I asked, taking in her appearance. She looked around seven years old and had long blonde curly hair along with big blue eyes and a dirt stained primrose pinafore.
"My name's Lily."she said, quivering her lower lip.
"Where's your mum?" I said kneeling beside her, trying my best not to intimidate her.
" I don't know, but I want my mummy." She cried, hugging her knees.
" Come on I'll take you to my apartment, and we will track down your mum. Is that okay?" I asked softly.
She nodded then reluctantly stood up and walked to my car.
The car ride was silent, except for the odd sniffle coming from the crying child in the back seat of my car.
Finally after about twenty minutes, we got to my apartment.
I walked from my car to my apartment, with Lily following close behind. I unlocked the door to my apartment, it was pitch black so I turned on the light. Lily stood awkwardly at the door frame.
I ushered her in, and closed the door behind us.
"Have a seat in the living room while I phone someone, Okay?" I told her, and she nodded.
I walked into my kitchen to drop off my bag from work, then I noticed I left my phone in the living room.
As I made my way to the living room I heard my kitchen drawer open then close.
I walked back into my kitchen to see what made the noise, there was nothing there. Confusion clouded my head as I walked into the living room to check on Lily to find she wasn't there.
"Lily?" I called out, but all I got back was silence.
As I turned around to look for her, I couldn't help the shriek that raked up from my throat as I felt seven stabbing pains in my back.
As the Crimson coloured liquid funnelled out from my body and onto to floor, life was slowly leaving me.
I look up and I saw Lily.
She was holding a blood stained knife, and a sinister smirk was etched onto her face.
