"Peter?" Ella spoke as the walked into the hospital room of the congressman to find him staring out the window a few feet away from his bed. The Congressman turned his head at the sound of the voice coming from the doorway.
"Ella Kirkman, aren't you a sight for sore eyes?" Peter replied with a smile as he sat up his bed as the Kirkman girl approached him.
"Peter, oh my god." Ella said as she arrived at the Oregon man's bedside. She finally took in the sight of him. Stubble was clear on his face along with some bruises and his eyes with heavy looking. "How are you feeling?"
"Alive, so grateful I suppose." Peter told her clearing trying to lighten a very tense situation.
Ella could find the tears coming to her eyes once again just as they had that morning when she found out the congressman had survived the attack.
"Hey, hey. It's okay." The MacLeish man spoke up as he reached out to take her hand in his to offer the girl some form of comfort. Ella used her free hand to swipe away the tears falling from her eyes onto her cheeks.
"I'm sorry. I don't know why I'm crying. It's just, you don't know how much the guilt was eating at me the last couple of days, knowing I should have been there. I should have been dead Peter. But I'm alive, all because of you."Ella explained as she tried to compose herself.
"I don't think if all this hadn't have happened you'd be taking me for giving you work and making you skip the State Of The Union." Peter replied causing Ella to laugh softly.
He was right. She was furious when the Congressman arrived in the Attorney General's office to give her a task just hours before the SOTU and when William overheard the encounter between the two, he was quick to inform her to focus on the Congressman's request and skip the event.
"I'm so glad you're okay." Ella told him quietly. The MacLeish man always held a soft spot for the now president's daughter and little did she know that was the real reason she was alive and not because of the fake work Peter had created to get her as far away from the Capitol building that night as possible.

"Mr. President, here are the changes we made to your remarks." Seth spoke as he greeted the president as he entered Arlington Cemetory.
"Go ahead. I'll catch up." Tom told Alex as he stopped with the press writer.
"I'm sorry, sir. The printers are still down in the West Wing." Seth replied gesturing to the hand written paper.
"Is that your eulogy?" Tyler Richmond, the former president's son, asked as he appeared in front of them.
"Tyler, yeah. I just made some last-minute changes." Tom spoke as he looked up to see the young man.
"Well, don't bother. You won't be needing it." Tyler replied matter-a-factly
