"You said you'd try to be late less"
"I'll just finish the food"
"But it's the first math lesson with him"
"Damn it, i don't care, alright? I'm hungry"
Ruka turned back with an insulted face and run down the corridor, to the classroom. I throw my half - eaten sandwich into the trashcan and I checked my phone.
*hi sweetie, daddy's hard, send me some photos*
*will do after classess*
I put my phone into the backpack and I hid my head between knees. A pleasant quitness wrapped me like a comfy envelope.
"Max" - somebody's growl woke me up from the trans. Above me, there was Julienne, with makeup heavier than yesterday.
"Me, yes"
"Ruka's said you're not feeling well"
"Everything hurts"
She was sizeing me up for a moment, and then she slapped my face. Guess I shouldn't have smiled to her.
"You're going to the classroom with me, immediately" - she told me with an ice-like face. And my cheek was burning quite a lot.
"Sorry for being late, I was in the toilet"
I didn't even looked at the teacher, I just went straight to my desk. The whole classroom was filled with deadly silence.
"Miss Maxinne, correct me if i'm worng, Edison?"
"Yes"
"So it is a set then"
That voice sounded familiar. Rugged, like it was distorted with untreated cough.
"Next time any delays will be punished. You could've not know how i hate wasting my time, but now that you're informed I trust it won't happen again"
I was staring into my notebook. Guy had the gift of the gab, but I was way too sleepy for all that talking.
"Would you give me a confirmation of your understanding about what I've just said?"
His croaky voice irritated me. I looked straight into his black, awfully cold eyes and I saw the man from the yesterday. So he didn't lie.
"Yes"
"Yes what?"
"Yes as a confirmation"
We clashed our glances for a moment. I never holded an eyecontact for longer than ten seconds, but this time I felt like I had to win it. Whatever "it" was.
"Thank you" - he said, eventually content. He ended our "duel" and he moved his eyes from me to the class, and I started to doodle in my notebook.
"I'll skip the introduction part, as it doesn't matter. I'm going to talk about my expectations instead, which I want all of you to meet. Without it, there's no cooperation between us"
Ruka's started noting.
"First of all, absolute obedience. I'm calling you to the blackboard, you do as I say. I tell you to confirm your understanding, you confirm it"
Some of the students giggled, and I rolled my eyes.
"Secondly, hard work. Maybe there is some of this so-called gift in you, but without work those meek skills will are worthless. I assign a homework, and you do it"
The dolphins rape their children, and I am a child of dolphins. Perhaps I should go to the therapy. I should, right? He assignes assigments, I do the assigmnet. Assigned assigment.
"For today's lesson I have a test to run. I want to measure your skills, see what you can take. Get to know the gifted, estimate what other has wrong. Julienne, you're the students council, aren't you?"
Julienne the student's council took the test from mr Wallace. In the meantime, I was counting the rules, not sure how many there was. All of them already blurred.
"Don't fuck it up" - whispered into my ear Julie, when she came over to my desk. I looked her in the eyes (tired, by the way. Her eyes were sad and tired). I damn well knew I won't.
"The time is up" - said the math proffesor. I opened the worksheet. With only three problems.
I really can't recall when the bell rang. Somebody's stood in front of me, telling to give the test back, but I felt like in a trans and I couldn't hear much. Somebody's called me deranged. Those problems were entirely diffrent from which we used to do. I had never encountered similar ones. My brain was pulsating with excitement and joy.
"Maxinne, all of the others have already gave their exams back. And you're staring into yours even though there's nothing to write anymore"
I slowly raised my head. Mr Wallace was typing something into the computer, not even looking at me. And I was about to have language class in a minute.
"Sorry, I'm done"
I put my work on his desk and left the classroom, heading to another one.
I was still typing all the formal stuff like the delays into the computer. The girl from previous day was cheeky, but it was not time to give her a formal schoolnote. I wanted to punish her diffrently. I took the test she left. The sheets were scribbled in notes, but the underlined answers were an exception. Quite funny, as none of them was right.
