The teacher was passing out papers, and I already knew I didn't do well. I sat next to Scott, who looked just as uneasy, while Stiles was behind him, unable to keep his voice down—as usual."If Derek isn't the Alpha... if he's not the one who bit you, then who did?" Stiles asked, leaning forward over his desk, trying to whisper but failing miserably.
"I don't know," Scott muttered back, staring straight ahead like he didn't want to be having this conversation.
"Did the Alpha kill the bus driver?" Stiles pressed, his voice a little louder.
"I don't know," Scott repeated, clearly frustrated. He shifted uncomfortably in his seat.
Stiles leaned back, but only for a moment. He was practically vibrating with curiosity. "Does Allison's dad know about the—"
"I don't know!" Scott half-whispered, half-yelled, catching the attention of the entire class.
I glanced around as people turned in their seats to stare. I turned back to my desk, pretending I wasn't eavesdropping. The teacher continued down the aisle, oblivious.
The papers landed on Scott's desk. A big, red D- marked the top of his test. Stiles mouth dropped open like he'd just seen a ghost.
"Dude, you've gotta study more," Stiles said, his voice softening like he was in genuine disbelief.
Scott groaned, rubbing his face. "That was a joke, Scott. It's one test. You'll make it up. Do you want any help studying?" Stiles offered, his voice picking up again.
"No." Scott sighed, flipping his test face down. "I'm studying with Allison after school."
I looked down at my own paper as the conversation continued. B, not bad. Stiles kept going on about Scott studying, Allison. Whatever it was.
"Hey, Stiles," I called over my shoulder, grinning. "You could help me study." I said it in a playful, teasing way, trying to get a rise out of him.
Scott chuckled under his breath, clearly entertained. At least someone was amused by my attempt.
"Really?" Stiles sounded nervous, like he hadn't expected that at all.
"No, dork." I smirked. "Yeah, maybe. I mean, I only got a B, so..."
"Well, I got an A," he said, his voice suddenly smug, as if he'd just been handed a victory.
"An A, huh? Guess you're smarter than I thought."
Stiles raised an eyebrow, clearly catching onto the teasing. "You thought I was dumb?"
"Well..." I trailed off, tapping my pen against the desk thoughtfully. "Not dumb, exactly. Just, you know, Stiles-level smart."
"Hey!" He feigned offense, clutching his chest dramatically. "I'll have you know I'm a genius in the making."
"Mmm, is that why you're offering to tutor Scott or something. To share all your genius-level knowledge?" I teased, spinning my pen between my fingers.
"Absolutely," Stiles said, trying to sound serious but cracking a smile. "I could teach you everything you need to know. I can you get you to an A in no time."
"Wow, I'm honored," I said with mock sincerity. "But what's in it for you?"
He blinked, clearly not expecting that question. "Uh... the satisfaction of helping a friend?"
"Hmm, sounds boring." I leaned a little closer, lowering my voice. "How about this if I get an A on the next test, you owe me pizza."
Stiles looked like he was considering it, his mouth twitching in that way it did when he was trying not to laugh. "And if you don't?"
