First snow of this year

The snow cascaded down, gently veiling the hospital garden in white. Jiwon's gaze lingered on her two best friends, chenle and yeseul, slow dancing beneath the twinkling lights. Their laughter and whispers mingled with the soft hum of holiday music drifting from the hospital's speakers.

Seated near the door, Jiwon felt the warmth of the hospital's lobby contrasting with the winter wonderland outside. She wrapped her hands around a steaming cup of hot chocolate, lost in thought.

Yeseul's bright smile and chenle's gentle gestures made Jiwon's heart swell. Their friendship had been a constant amidst life's turmoil. As she watched, a snowflake landed on Yeseul's hair, and chenle delicately brushed it away.

Jiwon's thoughts drifted to patient 101, her patient recovering within these hospital walls. She hoped this first snow would bring joy and healing to those who needed it most.

The door slid open, and a chill swept in. A figure stood in the entrance, shaking snowflakes from their coat. Jiwon's gaze met familiar eyes – beomgyu and then beside him, jieun who just arrived after her part-time job.

Jieun narrowed her eyes playfully at Jiwon, her sister's perpetual seriousness a constant source of amusement. "Why are you here like a statue? Come dance!" Jieun exclaimed, already tugging Jiwon out of her seat.

"Jieun, no" Jiwon mumbled, resistance futile against her sister's infectious enthusiasm.

But Jieun didn't let her finish. With a mischievous grin, she dragged Jiwon into the hospital garden, amidst the swirling snowflakes. The soft melody of "First Snow" filled the air, mingling with laughter and whispers.

As they stepped into the gentle snowfall, Jieun wrapped her arms around Jiwon's waist. "Come on, jiwon" she coaxed, swaying to the music. "Let go for once. Forget about everything and just enjoy this moment."

Jiwon's initial stiffness gradually yielded to Jieun's rhythm. Her eyes locked onto chenle and yeseul, still lost in their own world. Beomgyu, standing at the hospital entrance, watched with a warm smile. The snowflakes danced around them, each one unique and fleeting. Jieun's eyes sparkled as she twirled Jiwon, their laughter intertwining with the music.

For a moment, Jiwon forgot about the struggles she's been facing, her own worries, and the hospital's sterile confines. She let the snow and her sister's joy envelop her.

"You needed that, jiwon. Don't forget to smile"

Eunseok stood transfixed, his gaze pressed against the windowpane as he watched Jiwon and Jieun dance in the hospital garden. The snowflakes swirled around them, casting a serene backdrop for their joyful moment.

His eyes remained fixed on Jiwon, her smile radiant as Jieun twirled her around. Eunseok's ears resonated with her gentle laughter, the melodic sound weaving a spell around him.

Nine-year-old Jiwon burst into Eunseok's room like a whirlwind, her bright eyes aglow with excitement. She pounced on his bed, bouncing up and down with an irrepressible energy that sent his pillows tumbling.

"Wake up, Eunseok! Wake up!" she chimed, her voice piercing the morning calm like a joyful bell.

Eunseok groggily opened his eyes, growling, "Go away, angel. Let me sleep." His voice was a low rumble, muffled by the pillow.

But Jiwon wouldn't relent. She shook him, her small hands grasping his shoulders with a determined grip. "Wake up, it's snowing! It's snowing!" she yelled, her voice rising to a fever pitch that matched the swirling snowflakes outside.

Eunseok rubbed his eyes, bleary from sleep. "So what?" he mumbled, burying his face in the pillow, his voice a gruff whisper.

Jiwon's shoulders slumped, but only for a moment. She tugged at his arm, her grip surprisingly strong. "Come see! It's beautiful!"

Before Eunseok could protest, Jiwon dragged him out of bed and onto the sprawling balcony overlooking the snow-encased city. The chilly morning air slapped him awake, invigorating his senses.

As they stepped outside, snowflakes danced around them, casting a magical spell. Jiwon's laughter echoed through the balcony, infectious and joyful, mingling with the soft whisper of snow.

Eunseok's grumpiness dissipated, replaced by a reluctant smile. "Okay, okay. It's pretty" he admitted, watching the snowfall transform the world into a serene wonderland.

"Make a wish" he muttered, his voice barely above a whisper. He turned to Jiwon, his eyes sparkling with amusement.

Jiwon's face lit up, her eyes shining with curiosity. "Why do we have to make wishes?" she asked, her voice filled with wonder. She leaned against the balcony railing, her small hands grasping the cold metal.

Eunseok shrugged, his shoulders rising and falling. "My nanny said it's a tradition. First snow of the year, make a wish, and it'll come true." He smiled, his eyes crinkling at the corners.

Jiwon's brow furrowed in thought. "I wish it snows every day" she exclaimed finally, her face lighting up.

Eunseok chuckled. "That might get boring, angel. We'd have to build an igloo in the backyard." He teased, his voice light.

Jiwon giggled, her eyes sparkling. "That would be fun!" She paused, her expression turning serious. "I wish... I wish we're always together"

Eunseok's heart throbbed with a mix of nostalgia and longing as the memories came flooding back, like a dam broken. The snowflakes dancing outside of the window blurred into a haze as he was transported to a time when life was simpler, when promises were made with innocent conviction. "We stay together" Jiwon had said, her bright eyes shining with determination, her small hand grasping his in a vow of eternal friendship.

But now, the harsh reality slapped him awake - they stood as strangers, separated by the chasm of time and circumstance. The ache in his chest deepened, a hollow echo of what could have been. Their once-unbreakable bond had frayed, leaving behind only threads of forgotten laughter, whispered secrets, and shattered dreams.

Eunseok's gaze drifted away from the past, only to collide with Beomgyu's piercing stare. Standing at a fair distance, Beomgyu's eyes narrowed, his brow furrowed in concern. He raised an eyebrow, scrutinizing Eunseok as if searching for answers.

Without making a sound, Beomgyu mouthed a warning: "Don't hurt her"
