He forced the zipper to close as he squeezed the bag's contents together, only letting go when the bag was fully closed. Leaving the bag alone, the boy left his room in search of some food.

The boy shook his head as he readjusted, looking down at his feet. He tried not to get so happy each time a car passed, but he couldn't stop his excitement. Lifting his head upon hearing his name, he stayed quiet as she approached him. He glanced beside him, ensuring space for her as she joined him on his front step.

The two sat silently, the sounds of the world around them filling the air. He huffed, trying to hide his expression. "What time do you have?"
Her Angelica and Susie purple watch tightly fastened onto her wrist, "5:50." He nodded slowly; summer days always hid time slipping by. "Bye, Kentrell." She smiled at him, tapping his arm lightly before walking away. He distracted himself as he watched her walk across the street and into her house.

He glanced up and down the street one last time before standing up and entering his house. His bags taunted him as soon as he entered the foyer. On his way to his room, he grabbed them, laying them at the bottom of his closet. Lying on his bed, he longed for dinner, but his disappointment kept him on his bed.

"He promised."
