Chapter 3

"What do you mean by that?" After a long silence, Yang An slowly spoke.

Chang Ningxi let out an "ah," looking embarrassed, scratching his head as if he wanted to put it gently but couldn't find the right words. He hemmed and hawed for a while before squeezing out, "You... you'll find out when you get there."

Yang An: "..."

What the—what kind of terrible place did he take this job at?

He even started to reflect. Is painting mechas really such a disreputable job in this world? Why does it seem like it's so embarrassing that the guy can't even say it?

Or maybe painting mechas is too niche in the field of mecha design and doesn't fit the image of a mecha engineer?

"Alright then, I'll trouble you to show me the way later," Yang An said with a polite smile.

"N-no trouble at all..." Chang Ningxi's gaze flickered, his eyelids blinking rapidly. His amber eyes darted everywhere—at the sky, at the ground—just not at Yang An. "...I'll have Locas carry your luggage."

With that, he began to channel his mental power to command the mecha.

This time, the mecha moved smoothly, with steady steps at a moderate pace.

Following each command, the mecha moved flawlessly. Amidst a cloud of dust, it crouched at the entrance of the tunnel, extending its arm into the tunnel to "pull" out the suitcase—a literal stretch of its arm.

"Here, your suitcase," Chang Ningxi handed the suitcase over to Yang An, then trudged forward with his head down, acting like a shy maiden, unwilling to look back. "Let's go now. The place you're headed for will close when the sun sets, and it won't reopen until midnight."

Why would a mecha painting shop be open in the middle of the night?

Yang An had a peculiar expression on his face as a sense of unease crept over him, but he suppressed his doubts and dragged his suitcase to follow the other.

"I'll just drop you off here. All you have to do is follow this street straight down. The very, very last shop is the one you're looking for," Chang Ningxi stammered a bit toward the end.

"Alright, thank you." Yang An glanced around, a hint of surprise flashing in his heart.

This place was unexpectedly bustling. Artificial sunlight was filtered through massive temperature-controlled panels, making sure no one broke a sweat even if they stood there for a long time. The temperature throughout the entire area was just right. The buildings weren't very tall, but their styles were vibrant and colorful, giving off a strong cyberpunk vibe.

It was completely different from the desolate scene Yang An saw when he got off the public flyer earlier, making him marvel, "This is more like the center district!"

"When I find a place to stay, I'll contact you via my smart brain, and you can send over the mech," Yang An remembered something and turned to remind.

Chang Ningxi's face lit up with joy for a moment, and he nodded vigorously, "Okay! I'll send... Locas over then!"

Yang An smiled and waved, "Alright, see you then."

"Bye-bye! Good luck!" Chang Ningxi enthusiastically waved back and shouted.

Yang An paused in his steps; for a moment, he felt as if he was about to venture into a dragon's lair.

The street wasn't very long, and as he walked along, almost no one passed by. All the shops were technically open, but not fully.
