[Hyper-short chapter]

The next day, the council convened again, tension hanging in the air like a storm ready to unleash.

Azrael and Seraphine stood at the center, their hearts racing. Uriel and the council members appeared even more resolute, their faces set with grim determination.

“We have considered your proposal,” Uriel began, his voice commanding the room’s attention. “But we can not move forward without knowing your true intentions. The Abyss has a way of manipulating those who have strayed from the light.”

Azrael met his gaze head-on, a fire igniting within him. “I understand your hesitation, but I promise you, my only goal is to protect the realms. The Abyss preys on our fears and doubts, but I have faced it and survived. I know its tactics, and I’ve witnessed its devastation firsthand.”

Uriel leaned forward, his piercing gaze not leaving Azrael’s. “And yet, how can we be certain you won’t succumb to its whispers again? You must understand; trust is not given lightly in these times. We have lost many to the shadows.”

Seraphine’s heart pounded. “We will prove our loyalty. We will fight side by side with you, showing our commitment to this alliance. If Azrael were to betray you, he would be betraying me as well. Our fates are intertwined.”

The council members exchanged glances, weighing their options. Finally, Uriel raised his hand, silencing the murmurs. “Very well. We will provide you with your needs. But understand this: if at any point you show signs of betrayal, the consequences will be severe, and I will ensure you face them.”

Azrael nodded, gratitude mingling with relief. “Thank you. We will not let you down. Together, we will stand against the Abyss, and together, we will emerge victorious.”

As the council dismissed them, Seraphine’s eyes shone with hope. “This is it, Azrael. We can do this. We just need to rally everyone and prepare for the fight of our lives.”

He smiled at her, feeling the warmth of her faith bolster his resolve. “Yes, we can. Together. Let’s gather our allies and make sure they understand what’s at stake.”
