FIRST PERSON
my jaw practically dropped to the floor when my eyes fell on lynn loud. i didn't know who this girl was, but i sure as hell wanted to. just as i was working up to courage to introduce myself, the school bell rang, and without a second thought, the girl walked off.
"fucking idiot" i facepalmed myself. how great! the first person i met, and i left the worst impression possible, how bloody awesome. go me! i desperately tried to forget about it and move on with my day, but of course someone had to interrupt my internal dialogue, as always.
"you good there?" an freckled auburn girl who was about the same height as the fake blonde standing next to her chuckled, a curious expression on her face.
"uhh.. yeah." i tried to brush off what had just happened, but my mind just wouldn't let me. seriously, what the hell was happening? i stood there looking stupid for another few seconds as the two girls watched, not exactly catching onto the fact that they were waiting for me to explain why i was cursing myself out. i didn't realise until recently, but as it turns out, i was notoriously known in my hometown for having the worst grasp of social cues to womankind.
embarrassing... trust me, i know.
"you gonna tell us what happened, orrr...?" the fake blonde had some sort of weird valley girl accent, and dragged on the end of ever word she spoke. it was kind of odd, but who was i to judge when i sounded completely different from everyone in royal woods too? so i shrugged it off. i struggled to find the right words to suit the situation, so i settled for a simple introduction.
"hi, i'm ruby. uhhh, i just moved here from mission beach!" i tried to adopt my mum's happy-go-lucky tone from this morning, but quickly regretted it as soon as it came out of my mouth. i didn't understand why it was so hard to make friends for me when it seemed to come so naturally for everyone else. but to my surprise, the two girls seemed to actually be nice people. thank the lord for that.
"cool! i'm effie, and that's cami." the auburn girl smiled politely as she pointed over to the girl standing next to her. it was kind of funny how different they looked. if they weren't standing next to each other, i would've never guessed the two of them were friends. the fake blonde them was wearing a cheerleading uniform, and the other, the. same basketball jersey the girl i had bumped into earlier had been wearing.
"nice to meet you guys!" i smiled back politely. i wasn't sure why i was interacting with people when i told myself i'd lay low, but they seemed nice enough. plus, maybe being friends with cami would get me some bonus points with the cheer team, and they'd let me join. after all, my mum was bugging me about joining some sort of school club to occupy more of my time now that we were in an unfamiliar town.
"what class do you have now?" effie asked, interrupting my internal dialogue once again. i had no idea what class i had. i pulled out of my pocket the print of my schedule i had received a few days prior and read through it until i could find my first class of the day.
"errr.. english with mr burner?" i said, still looking down at the piece of now creased paper that i had to fold to fit into my pocket. my eyes darted up to the two girls when one of them spoke up excitedly, saying they had the same class and would help me to it. i was really grateful i had met some nice girls after that embarrassing interaction earlier.
"well, we better get going, i don't wanna be late" cami spoke up with a smile. i nodded along and began following the two girls down the hall to a class marked '203' at the very top of the door. luckily we walked in before the teacher had gotten there, meaning he hopefully wouldn't point me out and make me introduce myself to everyone or something embarrassing like that. effie walked to the second to last row, cami and i following closely behind. once we all sat down and began chatting, we heard the class settling down. i looked up to see a man walking in the classroom, wearing and old-timey black suit, with a classic tie over a white shirt. he was holding an oddly large briefcase.
'MR BURNER' he wrote in big capital letters on the white board with a blue marker, as he spoke up.
"good morning, everyone! my name is mr burner, and i'll be your english teacher this semester!" my ears rang as he spoke. he was way too peppy for the time being 8:00am. it honestly reminded me of my mother... and not in a good way. i sighed, realising this was gonna be a long day.

A/N i low-key hate this chapter, but it's kinda just a fill in to introduce cami and effie. hopefully you liked it though. pretty please don't forget to vote and comment, don't silent read i beg 😭😭😭😭😭.
once again, i did not read through this after writing it, so please excuse the typos and grammar mistakes. also idk why, but this started in third person and halfway through i randomly switched it all to first person bc it sounded better so if there's random parts in there that are third person in the beginning, sorry for confusing you 😭. anyway, thanks for reading mwah!!!!
