It was a Thursday, the 22nd of September, to be more specific. I was walking in the school, well, it was more running since I was 10 minutes late to my first class.
I stopped in front of the door, breathless, and knocked. The teacher opened the door and looked at me, not even surprised that it was me.
"Late, again. You really need to fix that problem, Alsia."she said with a sigh. I knew she was disappointed, knowing that I promised her that I wouldn't be late anymore the week before.
I walked into the classroom as I excused myself. I wasn't proud of myself for breaking my promise again, but I didn't feel bad either. The teachers knew that my usual promises of me stopping being late were always going to be broken the day after, if it wasn't the hour after. I sat down in the back and looked around the room.
There was a new student, a girl with long auburn hair pulled up in a messy bun. She had green, emerald eyes. They were beautiful, just like her, to be honest. She had the same features as Anna Hathaway, making her look even more gorgeous. She was sitting in the back, just like me, and was writing the lesson as the teacher talked.
I kept giving her a few looks as the hour went by slowly. The teacher interrogated her, and she answered with the softest voice I've heard in my whole life. And then the teacher interrogated me, bringing me go back to reality.
"What ?
- I asked you if you understood since you weren't listening.
- Mmh... Yeah... I completely understand."
I thought she was going to leave me alone until she asked me something about the lesson. I stayed completely silent, knowing that if I talked, I'd say the stupidest thing in the world. She looked at me, and I looked at her. We stayed like that for a good 5 minutes before she rolled her eyes and told me to listen when she was talking, and I apologized.
I was looking at the blank paper in front of me, and I heard a chuckle. I looked at where the sound came from. It was her. The girl who was looking like Anna Hathaway. She was looking at me with a smile on her face. It was kinda awkward for a smile, but it was endearing in a way, almost cute. It suited her very well. I saw her laughing while she hit her pen, and she coughed two times, making the teacher and the other students look at her. She excused herself, and everyone went back to focusing on the lesson. She started writing and listening to the teacher again, but she still had a smirk on her face, even a little blush on her cheeks.
The bell rang, and everyone started putting their things in their bag. I started doing the same but kept glancing at her a few times. There were pins on her back and pencil case, and a lot of keychains on her bag, too. It looked like a mess with all those things on it, and I loved it. I walked out of the classroom to my locker. I quickly walked into the hallways full of students, almost fell down in the stairs, and finally arrived at my locker. I looked around. They were couples kissing, people sitting on the ground, everyone was talking. It was just as usual, but it didn't feel like it, it felt weird, but not in a bad way, more like it was supposed to feel that way right now, like something was changing in my life, and it was supposed to.
It was during lunchtime when I saw her again. She didn't look like she was fine. It felt strange. I kept eating, I was starting to eat my dessert when I heard someone talking about her. It sounded bad. The girls were saying things about her getting expelled from her last school because she did things with her teachers to pass her classes.
"It's unbelievable that someone can believe things like that... that's such a cliché", I murmured to myself. I stopped eating and looked at the girl, who was eating alone at a table in a corner. I could tell that she was sad. I'd be too if rumours like that we spread about me on my first day in a new school.
I was half focused on the conversation behind me. They were still talking about the girl, calling her a bitch and other kind of names. I was about to leave, tired of hearing those stupid things, until I heard them saying her name. Naya. Her name was Naya. It was unique. Just like her.
