2: It's Him

Katherine's (aunt Kat) POV:  

After i dropped Rose at school i went to my office did some work and it was finally time for the important meeting i've been waiting for. Running you own company is not easy even if it's just a small firm i've been doing this since fifteen yeas now and it still sucks but it's a good thing it's my dream and i'm happy i've reached this far. 

The meeting went great yes i finally closed the deal. As an interior designer it's a huge thing that i signed with a really big company for my next project i've been working so much on this one. I was driving when my phone rang. A smile made it's way to my face seeing the caller ID i picked it up "hello sweetie" James voice came from the other side and i couldn't help but grin sometimes he can make my day better just by saying hi. Jame's my fiance we dated for a few years and he finally proposed two months ago it was beautiful now we are preparing for a June wedding. 

"Hey babe. Whats up?" i said my voice full of excitement.of course i got the deal.

"Someone seems happy" he knows me too well "You got it?" he doesn't have to tell me what he's asking about "what do you think?" i ask not wanting to dive in so fast "hmm i think you got it" he stated it as a matter of fact i smile "yup" i could practically see him grinning proudly "YES i'm buying dinner today we three will eat together come home early okay i'll be there too" Just like me he loves Rose like his own daughter and that's one of the reasons i love this man "okie bye love yaa" i said and cut the call just as i stopped at the cemetery.

Yeah this has kind of been the first place i come too when something big happens in my life since Madie died. Rose's mother. My best friend. My cousin sister. Yeah she left us nine years ago and since then the cemetery is like a second home for me and Rose we're not proud of it but we can't let go of it either "Hey bestie" i walk to her grave and sat in front of it "how are you doing? well i'm doing great even Rose. She's really excited for summer break. She keeps saying that this summer break will be different she has a feeling" i chuckle at myself "and well remember the big deal i told you about well i secured it YES i got it it's a huge thing Madie. It's for a really big company. Well i'm also going crazy thinking about the weeding and all i wish you were here" i wiped the few tears off my face "I miss you so much" i say and leave the flowers i bought on her grave. After i said everything i just stood there and let the tears flow it's been years but the pain is still the same "I love you and i'l see you later bye Madeline" i whisper and walked towards my car not before wishing she could talk to me just this once. Before i could enter my car i heard someone call my name "Kat?" i guess i know that voice.

"katherine?" oh no no no it can't be him no please don't let it be him "hey" the voice came closer i tuned around and there he is DAVID. DAVID CAMERON "uh hey" i said nervously and before i could say anything he hugged me i was stunned for a moment but then i hugged him back it felt painful. Seeing him like this. Without Madie "How are you hear i remember you lived in Texas. How are you in Canada?" he asked curious i can see the that he's been working really hard as usual the stress lines are there "uhh well i moved here a few years ago i started my own company here. It's a small firm. interior designing?" GOD i don't know what to say to this man "that's great" he smiled but it didn't reach his eyes. Wait you're reading too much into this Kat "how come your'e not back in California?" i waved my hand nervously "oh i came here for a business meeting" not surprised "and thought i'll visit an old friend now that i'm here" he said gesturing towards the cemetery of course "Why are you here though" i narrowed my eyes at him "In the cemetery i mean. Visiting someone?" i looked at my shoes then back at him don't tell him "yeah an old friend" i mirrored his words he smiled at me. "I was actually...." he cut me off "can we talk? like for a while if that's fine." no it's not fine you messed my best friend "uhm....sure" i smile at him just wow my subconscious self said there was something in his eyes i couldn't say no i replied. We decided to grab a coffee so we drove in our separate cars to the nearby coffee shop.

And now we are sitting awkwardly in the corner table of Cafe Swan. Even though i met him personally only three time once when Madie's dad uncle Henry died and then when her mom aunt Lydia died and last when they got married but we talked on the phone a few times when i used to talk to Madie on video calls. But Madie talked a lot about him. Well at least when the were married she did. "So i see the engagement ring" he smiled looking at my ring finger. "Well yeah i'm finally engaged we're planing a June wedding.''

"that's great. What's his name?" he asked playing with his coffee mug "James. He's a web developer." i smiled he smiled back. This is really awkward. "Well you look....." i started the conversation "old?" he interrupted me "uhm i was gonna say stressed but yeah that too i guess" i said with a smile and he chuckled "yeah actually...." he dazed off for a few seconds then looked at me with a tight smile "i have cancer."

OH MY GOD "are you alright?" i don't know what to say i wasn't expecting that he chuckles at my wide eyes "i'm fine. Still on stage zero so the doctors say medication will do." that's a relief even if i'm not a fan  of him i certainly don't want him dead "that's good. Take care" he smiled at me.

"How's Madeline?" okay i wasn't expecting that. What do i do DON'T TELL HIM. I follow his gaze and saw something unexpected. He was wearing his weeding ring. And i know it's the one madie gave him we bought it together. Then he looks at me NO PLEASE  his eyes held pain, sadness. WHAT WAS HE SAD ABOUT? he let out a sigh and took a  sip of his coffee. "She uhm. She died David nine years ago" his eyes go wide his hand goes tight around the cup he just stares at me for a few seconds when the first tear escapes his painful eyes.

Okay guys this is it.
