Niall

Stunning.

Breathtaking.

Beaming.

Giddy.

Happy.

My heart exploded. For all the reasons a man's heart would explode when he saw the woman he loved walk down the aisle wearing the most gorgeous dress. The bodice of the dress, from what I could see of it, was structured, strapless and had a classic sweetheart neckline. It was adorned with organic-inspired thin vine lace appliques that faded into the skirt of the dress. The lace and tulle of the skirt lightly draped over her waist as it flowed down the length of her body to the ground. All of this accented by the burst of pastels in her hair and bouquet.

When she reached him, her father kissed her cheek and gently placed her hand into his. She handed off her bouquet to her maid of honor before turning and facing him, her shoulders hunching up just a little as she took his hands in hers, smile brightening even more in her excitement.

The cleric raised a hand to have everyone sit before he began speaking:

"Welcome and please be seated. Thank you all for making the commitment to be here today as we celebrate this beautiful couple. Life is made up of a series of commitments: work, friends, family, community, even to ourselves. But making this commitment of marriage to the one you love can be the most fulfilling of one's entire life. Yes, it is a commitment of time, resources and emotion to another, but marriage is the commitment you also make to yourself. You commit to bettering yourself each day, working to be the best possible partner you can be. And it's not just a commitment to give love, but also to allow yourself to be open enough to receive it back.

"Many of us have experienced the seemingly counterintuitive feeling that giving feels a lot more rewarding than receiving. Your whole body, your mind, your heart is filled with content and joy when you give and see how positively it affects those who are receiving. A healthy, happy marriage consists of two partners who are whole heartedly ready and willing to give and receive just as these two who stand before us today so obviously are..."

As he continued to speak, I looked at her and my mind began to wander into the depths to pick apart all the moments I had had with her to get to this day. How did I get to this day? Where to start?

Six Years Ago

"Whoa! It looks like a hurricane blew through here. What is going on?" I heard a voice say from over the music playing and the load of boxes scattered just about everywhere. "Oh! Is it move-in day with the new roomie?"

"Sephie! Hey!" I heard my new flatmate say to someone. "Yes, it's move-in day. Come meet Niall." There was some shifting around before the volume of the music was lowered and I heard my name, "Hey, Niall, if you can escape your room with all this shit in the way, come meet my sister."

"Way to say nice things to your new roomie's things. Damn," I heard a female voice say.

I stepped over some boxes, moved some out of the way, and walked down the hallway. Turning into the living room, I saw her for the first time. Dark hair piled on top of her head. She was wearing loose fitting jeans and a t-shirt that I heard her brother say he had been looking for.

"Ah, there he is," he said when he saw me, "Niall, this is my twin sister, Sephie. Sephie, this is my new flatmate, Niall." He introduced us.

She stepped forward with her hand out, a smile on her face, "Hi, it's nice to meet you, Niall."

I took her hand in mine, a small smile coming to my face as I met her eyes. Her gorgeous, otherworldly blue-green eyes. And was that amber, too? How many colors in two eyes did this girl have?
