Gale's turn🫡
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"Um, Shrimp? Yer not gonna like this..."
Levy groaned as she turned at the sound of Gajeel's voice. She would normally be ecstatic when he came home, but his tone of voice made it clear that she was in for a headache.
"What did you do now?" she asked, resting a hand on her hip as she stood sternly in front of him.
He spoke no words as he brought his hands forward, showing her the basket he was carrying.
"What's in it?" Levy took the basket from his hands to inspect it.
Gajeel lunged after her, "Careful!"
Levy jumped in fright before glaring at him.
"If you'd just tell me what it is!"
Finally peeling back the blanket, her eyes bulged at the sight of a sleeping baby.
"GAJEEL!" she shrieked before remembering the child was sleeping. "Did you steal a baby?" she whisper-yelled.
"Hell no!" he whisper-yelled back. "Some granny gave her to me while I was walkin' here and next thing I know, she disappeared!"
Still slightly alarmed, Levy gently set the basket down on the table, "What do you mean "a granny" gave it to you? She didn't say anything?"
Levy carefully inspected the child, going as far as to lean in closely to make sure the baby was still breathing. Gajeel rolled his eyes at her lack of faith in him.
"She gave me the basket and told me to take care of it for a minute." He tiredly rubbed his face, "Lily and I stood in the same spot for over an hour and that hag never came back!"
"Why didn't you give the baby to the local Magic Counsel?" Levy questioned exasperatedly.
"'Cause what the hell do those fuckers know about babies?"
Levy shook her head at Gajeel's mistrust of the Magic Counsel. They'd once been members of it for Christ's sake!
"What the hell do we know about babies you dufus?!"
Before he could reply, Lily flew into the room with plastic bags in his arms.
"I got the baby food Gajeel. Didn't really know how to explain it to Mirajane though, so you guys have fun with that tomorrow," Lily stated as he set the bags down on the counter.
Levy and Gajeel simultaneously groaned. They both knew that they'd be in for some high-pitched squealing and irritating questioning tomorrow morning in the guild.
"I guess we'll worry about returning the child in the morning," Levy said.
Lily and Gajeel silently nodded in agreement. While Levy continued examining the child, Lily went to his bedroom.
It was as if the baby was used to noise because as soon as there wasn't any more of it, the child started crying.
"Is it a she or he?" Gajeel questioned as Levy picked the baby up.
"Well, definitely not an it," she replied indignantly.
After checking to see if a diaper needed to be changed, Levy carefully cradled the child against her chest.
"The baby's a girl," Levy murmured, swaying her body as she attempted to lull her to sleep.
Gajeel carefully stepped forward and examined her. He couldn't help but be in awe that such a small and cute thing could make him so unbelievably wary.
