Rapunzel leaned over the rail of the ship, her golden hair swaying in the breeze, her eyes bright with anticipation. The grand castle of Arendelle stood majestically on the horizon, its tall spires piercing the sky, surrounded by mountains and glittering fjords. Flynn Rider—well, now Eugene—stood beside her, arm casually slung around her waist. It had been months since their wedding, and this journey was their first major adventure as a married couple. Rapunzel couldn't contain her excitement. Today was a special day: her cousins Elsa and Anna were waiting for them, and Elsa's coronation was fast approaching.
"I can't believe we're almost there!" Rapunzel's voice was filled with childlike wonder, her wide eyes reflecting the sunlight. "It feels like just yesterday I was locked in that tower, and now... well, here we are. Together. Visiting family!"
Eugene chuckled softly, his signature smirk forming on his lips. "Yeah, and let's not forget, I'm about to rub shoulders with more royalty. Your cousins seem nice, but do you think Elsa's going to throw me out if I accidentally charm too much?"
Rapunzel elbowed him playfully, though her smile faded slightly. "Elsa... she's different, Eugene. From what Anna's told me in her letters, Elsa's had a lot on her plate since their parents... passed away. I just hope she's holding up okay."
They both fell silent for a moment, their thoughts lingering on Elsa. Rapunzel had heard of the burdens Elsa carried, the weight of a secret she couldn't yet fully understand. She wondered if their visit might lighten her cousin's load or simply add more to it.
As the ship neared the docks, a small crowd gathered to greet them. Among them, a familiar face stood out, waving energetically with all the enthusiasm of a child at play. Anna.
"Rapunzel!" Anna's voice rang out the moment the gangplank was lowered, her auburn hair bouncing as she rushed forward to embrace her cousin. "You made it! Oh, it's so good to see you again!"
Rapunzel barely had time to react before she was engulfed in a tight hug. Anna's energy was infectious, and soon both of them were laughing, the joy of family reunion warming the cool Arendelle air. Eugene, standing off to the side, gave Anna a small wave before Anna turned to him and practically tackled him in a similar greeting.
"I see Anna's still the same," Eugene quipped, shaking his head with an amused smile.
"And don't you forget it!" Anna grinned, pulling back to take a deep breath. "Come on! There's so much to show you! The coronation is tomorrow, but we've got the whole day ahead of us. I've planned everything!"
As they began walking toward the castle, Rapunzel noticed Anna's excitement, but there was something else—something beneath the surface. "Where's Elsa?" Rapunzel asked, her tone careful but curious.
Anna's smile faltered just a bit, but she recovered quickly. "Oh, she's busy. You know, royal duties and all that. But don't worry, you'll see her tonight at the reception."
Rapunzel exchanged a glance with Eugene, sensing that all wasn't as perfect as it seemed. But for now, she decided to focus on the happiness of reuniting with her cousins. There would be time to figure out the rest.
