The Secret Life of Amy Singh

Chapter 1

My name is AmyMy name is Amy Swanson-Singh, I’m 16 years old, married to the love of my life Adam Singh. My parents approved it, and even kicked me out the same day. Adam was also 16, but our marriage consisted of us driving back and forth every weekend. He liverd in Dallas, while I lived in Allen. We were in a gang when we were kids called Barney and the backyard gang. Our other members included my big brother, Michael who was married to Luci, and both were just finishing up their residency, at age 20 and 19. They graduated at 16, and went straight into medical school. Tina was also a member, and she was dating Derek, they were 15. Me and Adam were also legally emancipated.

Adam: Hey beautiful wife of mine. Are you alright? My husband senses are tingling...

Amy: No, I’m not okay... Any chance you can come to Allen tonight, instead of tomorrow??

Adam: Oh Honey, I thought you were coming here this weekend... I told you I couldn’t come up...

Amy: It’s fine... I’ll call you later...

I went to my locker throwing my books into my locker. “Amy???” I heard, turning to see Tina, and Kathy. The middle school was connected to the high school, so Kathy must’ve came over.“Hey, Everything Okay??” Kathy said “Nana was supposed to come pick me up, today, but she can’t... and Mom’s working... Can you drop me off  too???” I said “Sure, of course! Tina? You okay?? You look pale... Let’s get to the car.” We went to the car. Me and Adam had a note from our parents, stating we were able to have passengers in our car, since I usually drove Tina, Derek, daily and Kathy when needed. “Wait up!” Derek got in and I said “Alright Everyone buckled?” Once I heard a yes, I drove to Kathy’s apartment, and parked. Kathy was only 10.

Kathy’s mom: Hey, Amy, Can you keep Kathy with you this afternoon??? I hate to ask. But I’ll explain later...
Amy: Of course, No problem!!! Everything Okay?
Kathy’s Mom: No.

I dropped of Derek and Tina, before I said “What do you want to do Kathy sweetie?” “I wanna go to the mall.” I smiled and said “Of course. Let’s go.” I drove to the mall, and We got out.

Michael: Hey Amy, are you alright?  Adam texted me saying you weren’t okay...

Amy: I’m fine... I promise... Just getting my cycle.

Me and Kathy spent the afternoon shopping, and ate some dinner, before we passed a vintage toy store. “Amy! Look!” Kathy said, pointing. I smiled wide, and we went in. “Hi, How much for the Barney, Baby bop, and BJ Dinasours? DO you have 2 sets?” “For you two, I’ll cut you a deal,  you can have all 6 of them for 60.” I swiped my credit card,and the shop keep packed three up in one bag and 3 in another one, before handing them over to us.

Kathy’s Mom: Hey, it’s safe to come back to the apartment. Did you guys eat??

Amy: Yeah we just grabbed some food at the food court. We went to the mall.

Kathy’s mom: Thank you! I’ll pay you for whatever you spent today!

We went to the apartment, and got out. “Alright.” We went in, and I talked to her mom, before leaving, and that’s the last thing I remembered.

When I came too, I was in the hospital. “Someone Page Dr. Swanson! His sister’s awaken.” I heard one of the nurse, say. “Hi, Amy. I’m Nurse Jamie. I’ve been taking care of you since you got brought here. How are you feeling?” I said “Where’s my husband??” I said dizzily, as Michael came in. “Hey sis. It’s okay.” He helped me sit up. “I’ve tried calling him but he won’t answer.”  I picked up my phone, dialing Adam’s number, handing him the phone to Michael. “Hey Adam, It’s Michael... Look I know the arrangements, and everything... But We need you here...” He handed me the phone, “Adam... Please... I’m scared... I need you... I don’t know what happened... I was leaving Kathy’s... that’s the last thing I remember... My head hurts, and my ribs... Really??? Thank you so much... You too.” I hung up. “He’s on his way.” Michael smiled kissing my head.

“Excuse me. We have her lab results... We might’ve made a mistake, giving her the x-ray...”  The doctor in charge of my care took the clipboard, before frowning. “Oh crap...” He whispered. “Michael why are they acting like that...??” Michael stood and went over to them, looking at the blood work. “It’ll be fine. I’ve done under the same circumstances before... Let’s keep monitoring her, and watch for any complications. I’m going to sit with her. Let Luci know where I am, and let me know, when her husband gets here.” They nodded, as Michael sat next to me.

Adam finally arrived and said  “Hey. I'm here. Michael, I thought you couldn’t be her doctor?” Michael said “I’m not, I’m just here to help keep her calm and advocate her, while we waited for you.” I felt Adam sit on the bed wrapping his arms around me. “Is there any news?” “Not on what happened...” Just then Luci came in with a crying Kathy. “Kathy. What’s wrong?” I said sitting up as she ran over to us. “Mom and Nana...” I said “Kathy calm down honey. We’ll help you, but you have to tell us what’s wrong?”  Michael noticed all the bags from my car, and her luggage. “Kathy?”  I asked. “Please don’t let him take me...” I looked to Adam. “You’ll stay with us, he said without a moments hesitation.” “Her mom gave me these.” Luci said handing me papers. Adam helped me skim them.  They were granting full guardianship to me, and listed a lawyers number to call for legality and all that. “Don’t worry Kathy, We’ll keep you safe.” Michael said “Adam, any chance you can transfer back to Allen???” “I can’t, I’m in the middle of my senior year.” Adam was a genius, and was planning on graduating this year. “I would do it in a heartbeat.” “What are we going to do?” Adam said “I’ll figure it out, leave it to me. We’ll get a house, Let me worry about it.” “There are no houses for sale!” At least not in our price range... Not that we could afford one...” Michael said “Then Let me and Luci help. There is one that just went up for sale by the old elementary school, It’s a pretty big house, but I can buy it outright for you guys.” I looked to Adam and we said “Thanks Michael... But...” He said “No Buts. I insist.” Adam said “We’ll pay you back every penny.” Michael said “no you won’t. It’s a gift.” I smiled small as Kathy curled up in our side.

It took a few hours before released and returned home… okay well to Michael’s. Adam went to the apartment we had to pack up and get out of our lease. “Here you can stay here in our guest room. Amy you and Adam can have the room next to Kathy.” Luci said helping us settle. “Thanks for taking us in. I promise it’s temporary.” I replied as Michael and Luci said “absolutely not! It’s for as long as you want and need.” I smiled to them as Kathy said “wait Amy… can you sit with me until I fall asleep?” I smiled sitting carefully beside her stroking her arms sweetly. “I promise Kathy, me and Adam will not let anything happen to you.” I kissed her head, and soon she was fast asleep. I quietly tucked her in before getting the bags and tucking her in more with the Barney, Baby Bop, and BJ dolls, and her teddy whispering. “I’ll be right next door sweetie.” I stepped out , quietly shutting the door behind me. “I got the house for you guys. It does need some work, which I can help with.” Michael said, giving me a hug. “but can we talk? There were a few things I begged my colleagues to not disclose…” I nodded as we sat on the bed in the room me and Adam would stay in. “Well, for starters, when you came in your pants were torn off… so I gave the approval for an exam and a rape kit. Like we did for Kathy. It came back with enough of a sample on both to nail the prick. But yours and Kathy’s also came back positive for Chlamydia… I picked up the prescriptions for you, and Kathy. But you also have 3 cracked ribs and a slight concussion, but there is good news… You’re pregnant.” “how is that good news? I’m a teenager!” I replied, even if I was overjoyed. I didn’t care if I was young, but teen pregnancy was frowned upon still. “Well you are married, and you seem excited…” I smiled as Adam came in. “hey. Everything okay?” he sat everything down. “Of course. Just rest.” I nodded, as we fell asleep.

In the morning I woke up, to find Adam wide awake and out of the room. I quickly dressed and went out. “Morning Ames.” Michael said as I sat at the table. “Morning.” I said with a smile. “So I’ll contact  the lawyers office today, and see if it is possible to get a meeting set up. Michael, Luci, what are your plans?” Michael said “well I was hoping Adam and I could run and see the house, before I went to work, and then working all day.” Luci had the day off and was going over to her mom’s. “sounds good…” While the others left I called the lawyer who agreed to meet with us same day and would come over in an hour.  Adam came home to find me holding Kathy in my arms, Kathy was crying and holding her teddy. “Hey.” Adam sat with us until the lawyer came and was let in.

“Thank you so so much for doing this same day. I realize it’s a bit unconventional… But Adam currently attends school in Dallas and just came back for the weekend.” I said, as Adam and I sat at the table. “of course. I understand. I want to make this as easy as possible for you both, and for Kathy.” Kathy came over and sat with us. “ So what happens now? I mean, we have guardianship, but… we’re teenagers…” “Well you both technically are also considered legal adults as your emancipated.” “what’s going to happen to me…?” Kathy asked. “Well, that’s up to Amy and Adam… They have temporary guardianship…” I said “We are just 16…. But…” Adam said “But we want to adopt her.” The lawyer smiled handing the papers over to us, we signed them and got a copy. The lawyer talked to us about everything that we needed to do now, even if we had to travel back and forth. Once he left Adam got us something to eat. I had told him about the baby and the infection for me and Kathy. “Amy, Adam? Can I ask a question???” I smiled, to her as Adam said “Of course honey. What’s wrong?”  “Why would you do all this for me?” I said “Because we love you, and you’ve been apart of our gang, for a long time, and we always help each other out.”

Kathy smiled, hugging us tightly before starting to do her homework, while I helped Adam clean up. “I’ll transfer more money to your account every week... But what are you thinking?” I said “I put an application for part time work at the local day care... But... now with Kathy I don’t know how I’ll be able to work...” “Maybe they can offer a solution.” I smiled, and leaned on him. “I hope so.” Just then my phone rang. “Hi, this is Amy... Yes... Yes, of course! Hi. Yeah I can come in for an interview on Monday, but I do have a request... That I’m not sure we’ll figure an accommodate for, I can explain more in person... But could my daughter, she’s 10, be able to come with me? It's a complicated and delicate situation, that I’ll disclose on Monday.... Thank you so much! See you at 3:30 pm on Monday!” I hung up and Adam said “Good news I hope??”

I said “They want me to come for an interview, on Monday at 3:30pm...  They said that they’ll help figure out accommodations, for our situation.” Adam said “I hope it’ll work... I will figure out the insurance...” I nodded.

Michael: Hey what’s everyone hungry for???

Amy: Me and Kathy would like Pizza and wings

Luci: Pizza sounds delicious!

I smiled and said “Michael said he’d order the pizza and wings.” Adam said “Good.” The next day we had a funeral for Kathy’s mom and Nana, but that’s when I saw her bio father, I caught the security, guard gesturing, to her bio father, before Kathy could see what was happening. We returned to Michael’s before, and tucked Kathy in bed. “Alright... I’ll be right, back this weekend... Or you both can come to Dallas this weekend, I’ll leave my car, with you, and I’ll get a cab back. I’ll transfer the money once I get back. Let me know if there’s anything you need.” I nodded, and said “Thanks Adam.” He gave me a deep kiss, before he left. I went to our room, and laid down, slowly drifting to seep

In the morning I got up and got dressed, before joining Kathy for breakfast. “You look pretty sweetie.” “thanks Amy.” Michael said “Hey, so I have hired a security guard to discreetly follow you while your out and about just to be safe, I don’t want anything to happen, especially since he’s still circling around...” I said “Thank you. We appreciate it.” I said with a smile. Kathy picked up her bag, while I grabbed mine, as we stepped out of the house, seeing the guard. “Hi, I’m Amy... This is Kathy.” “I’m Jackson. I’ll be taking care of you guys.” I smiled, holding Kathy close. “I appreciate it.” I unlocked the car and Kathy climbed in, before I sat my bag in the passenger seat, before buckling in and driving to the middle school. I locked up the car, before taking Kathy in. ”Alright, sweetie. I’ll be back at 3 to pick you up. If you need me, you can go to the nurses or main office. I’ll stop by an explain the situation, to them. Okay??” She nodded, and said “Thank you Amy.”

I went to the nurses, and main office, explaining it to them, giving them a copy, of guardianship papers, adoption papers, authorized people allowed to pick her up, as well as a restraining order for her father, and a picture of him,  before going to the high school, quickly talking to the main office, explaining the situation, before going to my classes. But when I went to lunch, one of the staff from the main office,  “Hey, the middle school paged you.” The staff whispered. I got my things, and went to the middle school and went over to the main office. “Hey ever... WHAT IS HE DOING IN HERE?!” I shouted, as Kathy was crying in the corner.

Amy: Jackson get in here.

I was fuming, as I tried to fight my way over to my daughter, but got thrown to the ground, spraining my wrist in the process, before I finally reached Kathy. Jackson came over to me and Kathy which is when he said “I tried to stop him. I’m sorry.” He said tending to my wrist, before he stood between us. “What is the meaning of this!? I told you specifically he was not allowed...” “Amy forgive us, please. We just trespassed him, and called the police, but the replacement wasn’t aware. I stepped away for 2 seconds... I’m sorry!”  I looked to Kathy, but we waited for the police, who after interrogating us, arrested him for abuse, attempted murder, and rape. “Kathy, do you still want me to leave or stay with you for a little longer?” “Can you stay with me???” She asked. “I can stay a little longer.” I stayed with her for the rest of my lunch before, taking her back to her class. “Alright.” I pulled her teacher aside whispering what had happened, and she could text me if she needed me, before going over to Kathy handing a piece of paper to her. “This is my number, if you need me. Just tell your teacher, and I’ll come right back.” “Thanks again Amy. I love you.” I kissed her head, before leaving getting to my classes.

Amy: Hey Adam, any chance, can you transfer a little extra? I was thinking about getting Kathy a phone... Just because something just happened... Her father got into the school and I got called. Don’t worry, we’re okay, I just have a sprained wrist, but other than that, I’m okay.

Adam: Just transferred it, darling, plus a little extra to get you anything else you need. I love you.

Amy: thanks! You’re the best!

I went through my classes, before going to my locker only to see Kathy, who was crying. “Kathy. What’s wrong?” I said, kneeling beside her, as she hugged me tightly. “Can we go?” she asked, as I helped her up and got everything and took her to my car helping her in. Jackson was next to us, as I got in putting everything  in it, before I drove to the nursery. “Alright, stop one.”

Michael: Hey Are you okay? Will you be home by 4:30?
Amy: Sorry, I’ll be home by 6:30 at the latest. I am about to step into an interview, and then I have to run a couple places.
I walked into the nursery. “Can I help you?” the receptionist asked. “Hi, I have a 3:30 appointment, for an interview.” “Ahh yes. Amy Singh. Have a seat, I’ll call them.” A few minutes, a young woman came over. “Hi Amy? Come on back.” Me and Kathy followed her. I set up Kathy set up with her homework. “Alright, I’m sorry, It’s complicated.” I gave her the run down. “Oh the poor dear. Well if we do hire you, which I’ll let you know today, We’ll figure out the best way to handle this. We definitely can make an accommodation for you guys.” We interviewed, and at the end she said “Well, Amy, you are an exceptional, young lady, and we’ll be delighted to have you as a member of our team. So, we’ll start you tomorrow, at 3:30pm, and we also offer health insurance for all employees.” “That is so great! Now about my daughter Kathy??” I asked.

“Well, she can come and play with the younger kids, so you don’t have to worry about anything going wrong.” I smiled, and said “Thank you so much. I really appreciate it.” She handed me some papers. “Just some employee papers, just like health issues, emergency contact all that information, the last bundle is for the insurance.” I nodded, tucking them in my bag. “I’ll fill them out and bring them to my first day. Is there anything else I need to bring or do?” “Not at all. We’ll see you Monday.” I smiled. “Thank you again.” Me and Kathy went to the car and got in before going to the phone store, picking up a phone before returning to the house, before we went in. “Michael? Luci? We’re home!” “Good, dinner is ready!” Luci said, as we sat our things on the couch, before sitting at the table starting to eat. “Thank you.” We ate quietly, before Kathy took a bath and got ready for bed. Once we got settled  and facetimed Adam, before Kathy fell asleep. After I went to our room, while still on the facetime. “So I did get the job at the nursery, which does come with some perks. I’ve got insurance forms, that I’m going to fill out, and Kathy can come and play with the kids. I start tomorrow... Thanks babe... You look tired.... We love you too. Night.” We hung up, and I started calling an gynecologist, setting up an appointment for Friday, at 4:30, and contacted, Kathy’s dentist and pediatrician, to set up an appointment for me to come in, to change over information. I ended up falling asleep.

  In the morning I packed up everything and dressed, as Kathy ran in. “Amy!” I turned to her, and kissed her head. “I’m here sweetheart. Are you okay?” She nodded a little. After breakfast, we went to school. During my free period I filled out the papers. After school, Kathy and I went to the nursery, and went in. “Hey Amy, Hey Kathy.” “Hi Sally!” I went to her office with her. “I just wanted to let you know, I’m pregnant, and have an appointment on Friday, so I need to be off and Monday, I have to get information switched with Kathy’s dentist and Pediatrician.” “Oh of course! Whatever you need! I know, it’s all complicated.” I smiled and said “thank you, I really appreciate it.” “Of course, so we’re going to have you start in the baby room, and we’ll have you rotate, through. This week and next, you’ll be in the baby room,  Third and fourth week will be with Toddlers, and then weeks 6 & 7 will be in preschool. Then we’ll talk where you’ll be the best fit. Also, when you have your child, We’ll give you a discount, for child care while you are at school, and you’ll have 3 months of Maternity leave.” “Thank you.” I said with a smile, as I handed her the papers. We went and got familiar to the baby room, and trained. After work, I got the temporary insurance cards, before I left thanking her. “Mommy, I’m so tired.” she said yawning. "I know, let's get some dinner and go home."
