Samiksha's phone rang, cutting through the peaceful quiet of the late evening.
It was her mother, Reena.
She answered immediately.
"Yes, Mumma?" Samiksha said softly.
"Where are you, bacche? It's getting late," Reena's voice came from the other end.
"Mumma, I'm at Yogesh Nanu's house," Samiksha replied.
Reena sighed, sounding relieved. "Okay, jaldi aana."
"Ji, Mumma," Samiksha said before hanging up the call.
Just as she did, Damini walked in with a tray of ice cream bowls.
"Kis ka phone tha, beta?" Damini asked, smiling gently.
"Mumma ka, Nani," Samiksha responded. "She was asking where I am. It's late."
"Hmm," Damini nodded, a knowing look crossing her face. "Late ho gaya hai na?"
Samiksha smiled sheepishly. "Ji, Nani. Bas thodi der mein nikalti hoon."
Damini set the tray down and noticed Samiksha's face had fallen slightly.
She hadn't realized it, but Samiksha's thoughts had drifted toward Shivam, who hadn't come downstairs after dinner.
Her excitement to give him his gift had faded, and it showed in her eyes.
Damini, catching on, asked, "Samiksha, ek kaam karogi?"
"Ji, Nani, kahiye na," Samiksha nodded eagerly.
Damini handed her the tray with two bowls of ice cream. "Upar jaake right wala kamra Shivu ka hai. Le jao, dono ice cream enjoy karo."
Samiksha hesitated for a moment, her heart racing at the thought of going to Shivam's room.
But then she nodded and took the tray along with the small gift bag she had brought for him.
She stood at his door for a moment, unsure if she should knock or turn back.
Gathering her courage, she knocked softly twice but heard no response.
Hesitant yet determined, she gently pushed the door open and entered.
The room was dimly lit, with only a few soft lights casting shadows against the walls.
It felt quiet, almost too quiet.
Her eyes swept the room, noticing the spacious balcony that led to a breathtaking view of the night sky.
She couldn't help but be mesmerized by the peaceful scene outside.
But there was something missing-a bit more light, a bit more warmth, she thought.
She placed the tray of ice cream on the table and gently set the gift bag on Shivam's bed before walking toward the balcony.
The cool night breeze sent a small shiver through her body, but it felt soothing against her skin as she stood quietly, gazing up at the stars.

Upstairs, Shivam was fuming as his phone buzzed with bad news.
Someone had tried to hack into their company's confidential project, and it infuriated him.
