Silence. A lack of sounds and a sort of blissful emptiness. Jack preferred it; where his thoughts were his own, untarnished and absent. Left to their own devices as he continued his travels through the dense woodlands. Days of wandering leaving him not entirely tired or exhausted, just frustrated. He'd failed once more to achieve what he'd sought: Revenge. A failure that left him once more at the very beginning. Once more set out to hunt his target.
He supposed it was his karma; even with the events that had tainted his once perfect life. A time when he had good grades and was just as anyone else: Normal. But he supposed it was fates intervention; that just maybe he had a bigger purpose. Truth was, he often found the thought pointless. Afterall, it had been far too long since he could call himself 'human'. No, he knew the upsetting truth that he was nothing more than a monster.
Letting his mind fall clear, Jack took the moment to glance around the forest itself. He'd honestly walked at random, so the whole area was new. Sure, he could clear the forest rather quickly if he sought it, but there was something about the area. Not enough to give him red flags, but enough to leave him cautious on his adventures. Whatever lurked in the forest, he would gladly prefer to avoid it as a whole.
Maybe it was why he diverted to a different path. A tingling on his skin like lightning leaving him uneasy. It brought him down a more shaded part, where the moon barely slipped past the canopy of leaves overhead. Not that darkness was an issue for Jack. He could effortlessly traverse even in the darkest areas. That didn't mean he enjoyed it, as he truthfully missed the touch of warmth the sun offered. Or even the chilled kiss of the moon overhead.
Finding himself approaching an area that was a bit lighter, he dared to step beyond. However, his body stilled as he heard a voice. Multiple voices, laughter and chatter reaching his ears as he peered from where he stood, masked in shadows. Curiosity brimming on the edge of his tongues and making his stomach ache with a heated hunger.
Truth was, his last meal was two days prior, whilst he was still in town limits. It wasn't as if he appreciated his picky eating habits, but in the woods, there was a limit to his options. Humans barely came to the parts he wandered, so he felt almost giddy hearing voices. Though, the ringing in his mind gave him a warning. Pressured him to leave.
A feeling of fear; something Jack had faced a few times as a human. After he had been sacrificed and become a monster, he never felt it again. Not till now. He had lived at the top of the food chain; but in that very moment as he stared at the now visible house the flooded with light and voices, he felt small. Insignificant and in danger.
It was the only reason he once more slipped into the woods and tried to change course. Searched for a way around. Though, with his senses on alert, he found himself on the other side, stilling in his tracks. Empty sockets peering past the mask that hardly ever left his face. A sort of itch teasing his mind as he viewed three individuals.
One was easily forgettable to Jack. A mask and head of brown hair, cigarette resting between fingers. It was an odor Jack scrunched his nose to as he viewed how they gave out orders before sighing in defeat. Quickly heading into the house as the other wearing a hoodie followed quickly. Again, someone Jack couldn't be intrigued by.
