Chapter 2

I can see Ebony she is smiling and is playing in the park swings while I am on the monkey bars. The two of us are laughing.

I jump off and run over to the swing next to her. I remember this day it was when everyone started to be taken.

"Ebony?" I asked

"Yeah Lay?"

"Why have mum and dad been acting all weird?" I asked as I started to swing.

"They are hungry Lay and giving us away might get them food but stay with me and you'll be fine" she said reassuringly.

I smiled at her but I still felt uneasy.

I could feel something was wrong usually after a serious conversation we would goof of but this time Ebony kept looking at the hill expecting for something to come over.

"Come on" Ebony said as she grabbed my hand.

I thought she was going to take me home but she started to pull me in the opposite direction.

"Where are we going?" I asked as it felt she was going to pull my rm out if its socket.

"Be quiet and whatever happens don't let go unless you can get away but it means leaving me behind ok?" she asked

"Why what's going in Ebony?" I asked concerned.

She pushed me into a hollow tree trunk.

"Stay down and whatever you do stay quiet" she hissed at me.

She got up and started to act as if she was all by herself.

"Where is she?" A woman's voice asked.

I pocked my head around enough to see who it was. My mum and dad were approaching Ebony.

"Lay? No she said she was going to go digging somewhere out here but I haven't seen her" she said confidently.

Why wouldn't she tell mum and dad that I was right hear.

'Stay down and whatever you do stay quiet' those words played over in my mind over and over again.

"Your lying now tell us the truth" dad yelled at her.

"I'm not you said if I gave her up you would let me go so why would I give up my freedom for my stupid little sister?"

I couldn't believe she was saying this but than behind her back he gave me thumbs up thumbs down than a so so motion.

We made this up 4 years ago it meant I'm sorry and when they are not looking run. It was a really complex language.

Ebony started to head back towards the pack and when mum and dads backs were towards me I ran.

I got to the edge of a cliff and u could hear footsteps coming up behind me I turned to see Ebony coming up behind me.

She ran straight past me and straight off the cliff. I screamed.

"Jump" I heard her scream up.

"What?"

"Just do what I say" she continued telling up to me.

I took a deep breath and plummets down. A sharp pain struck my shoulder than it felt like a rubbing feeling.

I opened my eyes to see Kelly rubbing my shoulder the way Ebony used to.

I looked around only to realise that it was night time.

"What time is it?" I asked confused

Kelly looked at a magenta watch with golden hands.

"Around 1:27am I woke you up a few minutes earlier so you have time to adjust" she said softly

Ebony used to do that as well I hope I can get her back. My eyes started to feel heavy already but I knew the only way to repay these people is to stick to their rules.

I got out and went back into the main room where the last shift was changing over with this one. Everyone from those who are going to sleep to those who were waking up we were all groggy.

Jess came over to me she must be on the same shift as I.

"Ok so you will sit here and monitor cameras 7,11 and 57 and if you see anyone on the run you press this button and Greg and I over here will check it out"

I took a seat on the swivel chair in front of the 3 monitors. One was over looking an abandoned looking building. Another was scanning a bush area and the final I had no idea where it was scanning.

"Jess" I turned around to look at her and she came rushing over.

"What did you see something?" She asked in a panic.

"No it's just... Where is camera 3 overlooking?" I asked

She looked over my shoulder than started to tap the screen.

"See that light dot way over the back there?" She asked

"Yeah"

"That is N.O.B building" she said with with sadness and anger in her voice.

"N.O.B?" I asked having no idea what that stood for.

"New Ones Building" she explained.

"That's where the captured are taken" she continued.

I turned my attention back to the monitor an kept watch for the next 17 hours and they seemed the longest 17 hours of my life.

Before my shift was over I noticed a shadow in between two trees.

"Guys" I called out

The boy named Greg came over to me and followed my gaze. He ran over tot he big red button that sounded an alarm loud enough for people outside to hear I had to cover my ears.

"Quick 4 of you to new side 2 to protect the other 2 to capture and bring back"

All 4 of them were boys that stared to scramble up some stairs that I didn't know was there.

I went back to looking at the screens and soon realise there is a zoom button so i use it to zoom in on the shadow. It unfortunately did not go close enough for me to see who it was but I could see what they were doing.

They gave a thumbs up thumbs down straight at the camera.

"Ebony?" I said out loud.

Another alarm sounded but a better sounding one that singled change over I got up and went back to bed.
