"Hey, slow pokes, let's go cars leaving." Henry yelled up the stairs. Tara was the first down the stairs. "I'm coming. Don't get your underwear in a bundle," she laughed, throwing her duffle bag next to the door. She stagged to the kitchen. Archie was next down the stairs, throwing his bag next to Tara's, giving a small nod to Henry, meeting her in the kitchen with a kiss on the check. Jane was the last down the stairs, putting her stuff neatly with the others by the door. Meeting the others in the kitchen, Henry joins the other. "Everyone got everything they need, toiletries, plenty of clothes." henry checked off his list "yes dad" archie said sarcastically "alright your jerk if your missing anything lets go " he rushed everyone out the door they grabbed their bags as the filed out piling it in the back of the green van archie jumped in the driver seat honking henry did one more check through the house before grabbing his own bag locking it up
Tara jumped in the passenger seat while henry and jane was in the back "hey someone Bluetooth to the radio "jane quickly grabbed the cord plugging in her phone playing loud music they pulled out of their home in Florida singing along for a few hours every now and then turning it down to talk "so where's the end destination hen" Tara asked he shrugged "I Dunno wherever we end up" she nodded "hey bro you want to switch there's a gas station up here" henry agreed "yea I can drive for a bit " they pull into the gas station all getting out to stretch their legs "I'm go get some snacks come on jane" Tara pulled jane along into the small gas station They came back with an arm full of chips, candy bars, and slushies for everyone. "We got a little of everything," she handed Archie his card back with a smug smile. He sighed, putting it in his wallet.
Henry got in the driver's seat while archie jumped in the passenger's seat, leaving the girls to sit in the back with their snacks. Archie turned down the music facing the others. "Hey, since we were passing through, why don't we stop in Vegas? We could stay a night and go to some casinos." They all agreed. A few minutes passed. It was now dark. They had been driving for a few hours. Henry pulled off into a gas station.
He looked at his friends, the girls asleep in the back. Archie had his headphones in, leaning against the window. He took his headphones out, looking around. "Hey, we need gas again." He sat up, stretching his arms with a groan. "No, I just need to stretch my legs." He nodded, going back to his phone. laying back on the window Henry got out, stretching his arms and legs, and checking his phone.
He had three messages from Aunt G: Hey, Boo, how's the trip? He smiled, texting her back before reading the other two messages from unknown: Have a good drive, Henry. He looked at the number, confused and unknown: Those girls look so cute sleeping, don't they.? He looked around the empty gas station. The only other car there was the teenager standing at the counter on his phone. He looked in the car at Archie in the passenger seat, who was asleep against the window, then back at the girls, who were still asleep in the back. He got back in the car, locking the doors before driving off. He drove a few miles, the girls now awake and talking in the back. "Hey, so I got this weird text at the gas station," he handed them the phone for them to read,
"There wasn't anyone else there but us and the cashier in the store, but I don't know how he could have gotten my number. I didn't talk to him or buy anything. I didn't go in the store. I just needed to stretch my legs. They shrugged, "Maybe it was sleeping beauty over there." Tara nodded towards Archie. "Yeah, probably just a prank." He shrugged it off. He drove a few miles up the road before the car stuttered. He pulled to the side of the highway before the car completely shut off. "Dang it." He hit the wheel. "Hey, Arch, wake up, dude." He hit Archies arm, making him jump up. "Dude, we were out of gas." He sighed, "Why didn't you fill it up when you were stretching your legs, idiot?" Archie huffed, "Because you scared me, you idiot, with those stupid texts." He furrowed his brows. "What text?" Henry pulled out his phone, showing him the text, "Dude, that wasn't me." You have my phone number saved." He reread the text, "And you should know I never use periods and stuff."
he looked at the text again "then who was it" he sighed putting his phone away 'why don't you and Tara go get some gas from the gas station up the road ill find us a hotel to stay at for the night its already dark archie grabbed the gas container from the back Tara got out and walked with him while henry grabbed a small bag out of the trunk "I'm try to walk and get some service to call a motel" he walked a few miles up the road calling a small motel "hey can I get two rooms for tonight" thanks he came back 30 minutes later getting in the car with jane he leaned against the window closing his eyes when archie came running up gas tank in hand alone henry quickly jumped out of the van "T-Tara s-she's " he pointed back towards the gas station "where is she arch is she ok" He fell to his knees, sobbing, "Oh, Archie."
Jane quickly wrapped her arms around him, letting him cry, "I went to the gas station to pay; I came back; she was gone." He stood up, hanging his head. "It's ok, arch, lets get this gas in the van. We will go look for her." Henry took the gas can from him, filling the van. They drove to the gas station, all piling out "TARA." They all called for her to go around, and in the gas station, "Hey, arch, its too dark to see. Let's go to the motel. We can look for her in the morning. OK, we can call the police in the morning." Archie just nodded slumped. He got in the van. They drove to the motel. "Hey, check in for Henry." She handed him two sets of keys. "Here, Arch, I got you your own room. I figured you didn't want to share with us." He just nodded, throwing his bag over his shoulder and grabbing the key. The three walked to the elevator, pushing the button for floor 3. They quietly rode the elevator till they got to their floor. They walked to their respected rooms, locking the door behind them.
Jane set her stuff on the chair in the corner of the room. "I'm going to brush my teeth and get ready for bed." Henry nodded, throwing his bag on the floor beside the bed, changing into his own pajamas, and getting in the queen-sized bed, covering up. "Hey, hen, you think Arch is going to be ok," she mumbled from the bathroom. "I don't know, I hope so, poor guy." He grabbed his phone, deciding to text Archie to Arch: Hey, Bud, are you ok? He quickly texted back from Arch: What do you think, hen? I'm going to bed tonight. He plugged in his phone as Jane came out now in her pajamas laying beside him. "How is he?" he rolled over, cuddling Jane. "About how you think?" she sighed, cuddling into Henry scrolling on her own phone. "Hey, I'm going to go get ice and something to drink." jane nodded.
Henry grabbed the small ice bucket and the key, leaving the room. He came back, setting down the half-full ice bucket and Pepsi on the table. Glancing at Jane asleep, he changed his clothes, getting in bed beside her, and quickly falling asleep.
