In Skavenblight, the Skaven plot the expansion of their Under-Empire across the Old World while waging bloody war against the various factions that live within the Old World. Even as the Skaven carve out their piece of the Old World, they are constantly undermined by their backstabbing ways. One night in Skavenblight, Ikit Claw of Clan Skryre conducts an experiment. Night after night, Ikit Claw and his Warlock-Engineers work on the construction of a powerful weapon fueled by Warpstone. After weeks of construction, the invention was completed.
Ikit Claw: Yes-yes! The Warp Engine is complete-finished! The essence of the Warpstone feeds my machine. To create, one must-must destroy! To destroy, one must-must create! This will-will be great-best invention! Make-force all Skaven bow-grovel! Destroy-kill all-all enemies! Tell-say that Ikit Claw, Chief Warlock of Clan Skryre, Master of the Warpstorm, Flayer of Forgemaster Gharhakk Bloodtongue, Butcher of Chicomecoatl, Gutter of Jarl Alfhild Daemonkin, Burner of Magister Klaus von Doenhoff, Razer of Helwigstadt! Yes-yes!
Without hesitation, Ikit Claw activates the Warp Engine. There was a low hum before the Warpstones inside began to glow. Soon, the device began power up. Ikit Claw and the other Warlock-Engineers watched with awe as what appeared to be a doorway opened up.
Ikit Claw: Yes-yes! YES-YES!
Suddenly, the entire room began to shake as the doorway began to destabilize. The Warp Engine began to build up power within itself. Suddenly, the Warp Engine explodes in a shockwave of energy which ripples across Skavenblight. The Warlock-Engineers close to the machine were killed by the blast. After the initial explosion, the Warp Engine seems to power down. Ikit Claw looks at the powered down Warp Engine with anger.
Ikit Claw: What?! The Warp Engine is broken-not working! Which one of you fool-fool rats sabotage-ruin the Warp Engine!
Clan Skryre Warlock-Engineer: It wasn't us, Chief-Chief! It must've been those dead fool-fool rats who were killed in the blast!
Ikit Claw: Bah! This a waste-waste of time! I should....
Ikit Claw looked around to see that the room has changed significantly. It was not the laboratory that he and the other Warlock-Engineers were in. It was clear to Ikit Claw that that something had gone awry. At the same time, Lord Gnawdwell of Clan Mors was looking looking over some ancient texts when the shockwave was felt. When Lord Gnawdwell stopped to look around, he suddenly found himself in an entirely different room.
Lord Gnawdwell: What is going on?!
Lord Gnawdwell exits the room and is greeted by a shocking sight. Instead of Skavenblight, He saw that he was in what appeared to be a rundown city. At first, he thought he was the only one in this city. But he quickly saw other Skaven. What followed were multiple bell chimes that rang across the city. It didn't take long for Lord Gnawdwell to realize that whatever happened to him no doubt happened to other Skaven. What Lord Gnawdwell and the rest of the Skaven didn't realize was that they were no longer in Skavenblight. In fact, they were no longer in the bounds of the Old World. Instead, they were in the ruins of Mountain Glenn on the world of Remnant. Meanwhile in the outskirts of Mountain Glenn, Team RWBY and Team JNPR were making their way to the city. They had been assigned to clear up the remaining Grimm that remained within the city in the aftermath of the attack on Vale.
Yang: Is it just me or is there more Grimm than the last time we were at this place.
Blake: Looks like the Grimm flooded this place since the attack.
Weiss: This is going to make our search much more difficult.
Nora: Sounds like a normal Tuesday for us!
Ren: Normal Tuesdays are nothing like this, Nora....
Suddenly, the sound of bell chimes were heard. Team RWBY and Team JNPR were quickly confused by the sound of the bells. As the two teams of Huntsmen and Huntresses in training listened in, they heard 13 chimes echoing across the ruined city.
Jaune: Um...what the heck was that?
Pyrrha: Those sounded like....bells.
Weiss: Last time I checked, Mountain Glenn didn't have any bell towers.
Blake: But those bells wouldn't be ringing by themselves. Someone has to be ringing those bells.
Yang: But why would someone be ringing those bells? Wouldn't that be like ringing the dinner bell for the Grimm?
Ren: Maybe that's what they're counting on. Maybe they're try to herd the Grimm.
As Ren said that, the bells began to ring once more. They listened as 13 more bell chimes could be heard ringing across the city. It was clear to everyone that someone was ringing the bells and that the ringing bells would no doubt attract any nearby Grimm.
Ruby: Then we better take a look. If someone is trying to herd these Grimm, then they're no doubt trying to launch another attack on Vale. Which means we have to stop it.
Pyrrha: Then we shouldn't waste any time.
With that, Team RWBY and Team JNPR began making their way further into Mountain Glenn to investigate the ringing bells within Mountain Glenn. What they didn't realize what that this was not the work of either an isolated madman or a familiar enemy. This was the work of something they had never faced before. And within the ruined city of Mountain Glenn, both Team RWBY and Team JNPR would be exposed to the unspeakable horrors that only a race as cruel and evil as the Skaven could offer.
