A Visit from Uncle Sam

It was a bright Saturday afternoon when Sam Golbach, Colby's best friend and the boys' uncle, came over for the first time to meet Xander and Xavier. Colby and Sam had been best friends since high school, and though they hadn't seen each other in a while, their bond remained strong. Sam was excited to meet Colby's family, especially Xander and Xavier, whom he had heard so much about.

As soon as Sam stepped into the house, Xavier ran up to him, his big eyes filled with curiosity. "Are you really Uncle Sam?" he asked, staring up at the tall man with sandy blond hair and a wide smile.

Sam laughed and crouched down to Xavier's level. "Yep, that's me. You must be Xavier, right?"

Xavier nodded enthusiastically. "I'm five, and I can do cartwheels!" he announced proudly, bouncing around with excitement.

Xander, who was watching from the couch, was a bit more cautious. He had heard about Uncle Sam, but meeting new people always made him a little nervous. He shifted uncomfortably, fiddling with one of his toys, unsure of what to say.

Valerie, noticing Xander's hesitation, gave him an encouraging smile. "Xander, why don't you come say hello to Uncle Sam?" she suggested gently.

Xander stood up slowly, his ADHD making his thoughts race. He wasn't sure how to act around Sam—what if he said something wrong or did something embarrassing? But Sam's friendly demeanor put him at ease. As Xander approached, Sam grinned and held out his hand for a high-five.

"You must be Xander, the tower-building master!" Sam said, referring to Colby's stories about Xander's love for constructing elaborate block towers.

Xander's face lit up a little, and he shyly returned the high-five. "Yeah... I like building stuff," he mumbled, starting to feel a bit more comfortable.

Colby, standing nearby, couldn't help but smile at the sight of his best friend bonding with his sons. "Sam, this is Xander, my little engineer, and you've already met Xavier, the cartwheel king," he said, his voice filled with pride.

Valerie joined them, giving Sam a warm hug. "It's so good to finally meet you in person," she said. "Colby's told us all about your crazy adventures together."

Sam chuckled, glancing at Colby with a grin. "Yeah, we had some good times, didn't we?"

"Too many to count," Colby agreed, laughing.

As the day went on, Sam played with the boys, joining in on their games and showing them a few cool tricks he had picked up. He even helped Xander build an impressive block tower, while Xavier proudly showed off his cartwheels and superhero moves. It didn't take long for the boys to warm up to their uncle, and soon enough, it felt like Sam had always been part of the family.

By the end of the afternoon, the house was filled with laughter, and Xander and Xavier were both grinning from ear to ear. Sam had easily earned their admiration and affection.

As Sam was getting ready to leave, Xander tugged at his sleeve. "Uncle Sam, will you come back soon?" he asked quietly, his earlier shyness completely gone.

Sam smiled and ruffled Xander's hair. "You bet, buddy. I'll be back to help you build even bigger towers."

Xavier jumped in excitedly. "And we can do more cartwheels next time!"

Sam laughed and hugged both boys before turning to Colby and Valerie. "You've got an awesome family," he said warmly. "I'm glad I got to meet them."

Colby clapped him on the back. "You're always welcome here, man. We'll have to do this again soon."

Valerie smiled, watching her boys happily chat about their new favorite uncle. "You're part of the family now, Sam."

As Sam left, Xander and Xavier waved enthusiastically, already looking forward to his next visit. The day had been full of laughter, connection, and the start of a new bond between the boys and their Uncle Sam.
