At first, Mads thinks that the kiss is nothing special. She doesn't have much experience to really judge from, as she never found the culture of hookups that appealing. Yes, sure, it satisfies the physical craving of being wanted or desired, but it's only a scratch on the surface. Superficial. Nothing more than a temporary fix.

Mads thinks that the one thing she craves the most is being seen and understood.

She wants someone to know how she loves to sleep in on weekends without being teased for it. She wants someone who'd join her in a little Sunday brunch tradition where the kitchen is filled with the smell of food and freshly made coffee. She wants them to know that she doesn't have a favorite fruit, and for that, they have to playfully nudge her to try each one, knowing she'll never choose. She wants to spend rainy days curled up inside, and sunny days out—on a picnic, on a car ride, wandering downtown.

Anywhere, as long as they're together.

Kissing Lando the first time didn't feel like much, because she was tipsy, and he was there, looking unfairly good. To be fair, he always does, with his unruly curls, that infectious smile, and his eyes... Mads could admit that his eyes and his arms are her favorite things about him. And now, those hands are holding her, tracing gentle lines along her back. She does feel things – but just not enough.

Not enough for her to believe Lando might be serious.

And to be completely honest, he's not sure if he is either. Lando thinks about it as he pulls Mads closer, feeling her warmth seeping through their clothes. The kiss is deep, and he wants it to be meaningful, but he's unsure what else he's capable of meaning. Mads is different – she's magnetic, she's precious, she's exhilarating – but the thought of being serious hovers in his mind, a barrier that stops him from fully losing himself in this moment.

It's Mads who eventually pulls away, her forehead resting against his as she catches her breath.

"Whatever you're thinking about, can it wait until we're done?" she says, her voice barely a whisper, laced with a hint of amusement.

Lando's brows furrow, a confused smile tugging at the corner of his lips. "What?"

She raises a brow, a playful glint in her eye. "You're distracted from the main event here." She gestures toward herself, and it's enough to draw a low chuckle from him.

"Is that your way of saying I'm not doing a good job?"

"You could do better," she counters, a little challenge in her voice.

Lando's grin sharpens, determination flaring up in his chest. He wasn't about to let her think the first night was a fluke, and if there's one thing he can't resist, it's proving a point.

And this point is particularly important to him.

His lips meet Mads' halfway, and it feels like a sea of passion crashing in the middle of her apartment. With all the thoughts left behind, to be dealt with later, the atmosphere seems to shift. Lando's hands cupped Mads' cheeks, and she had to hold herself from not melting from the warmth of it. It feels intimate, a little too close, and that's exactly what she wanted this whole time.

Now that she got it, it does scare her how easily Lando can make her feel those things.

Lando started walking back, carefully leading Mads towards what he assumed would be the bedroom. In need for more, Mads slips her tongue into his mouth, deepening the kiss, and it is so much better than she remembers. He doesn't taste like alcohol anymore, and the only thing she can taste is a light trace of mint; she can only assume he had gum in the car.
