The glass, which was originally in Luana's hand and filled to the brim with cocoa, fell to the floor with a clink and shattered into a thousand tiny shards. Cheng's heart also shattered into a thousand pieces, breathing caused him pain, tears welled up in his eyes. "Lu..." his voice trembled, betraying his fear, his shame.
"Stop it! Stop talking!" Lu screamed, he cupped his hands to his face and sobbed. "I don't want to hear you talk anymore! Not one more word!" The black-haired man turned away and picked up the notepad. "You're lying. Every time I've asked you something, you've looked me in the eye and lied right to my face! Every damn breath is a dirty lie!" he gasped, waving the notebook around wildly. Cheng looked at his best friend in dismay, not knowing what to do or say. It was as if the words had been erased from his mind. Slowly, he tried to take a step towards Lu, but Lu dodged him.
"Stop it! I don't want to see you anymore! You're a murderer! You're going to be a murderer! Why are you doing this?" Lu screamed at him. "Because I want to save you, damn it! You got into danger because of me, because of my powers!" Cheng shouted back. Tears dripped onto his clothes. "I can't just watch you die in my arms!" he added, gasping, and tried to snatch the book out of Lu's hand, but his friend pushed him back harshly. "Don't touch me!" he hissed. "Tell me, Cheng. Will you really.... go this far to save me? Are you going to take another person's life to save me?" he asked in a suddenly calm voice. Cheng remained silent. He didn't want to answer this question, because after all, everyone knew the answer.
"Answer me Cheng," Lu cursed - he could no longer bear the silence. It was pressing on his ears, threatening to rupture his eardrums and rob him of his sanity. "Yes. I would do it... and the future me proves it..." whispered Cheng, lowering his gaze. "No. No, no, no. I don't want any of this...," Lu turned to Luana. The girl shook her head desperately. "Tell me, please tell me, none of this is true, Cheng," she sobbed. But unfortunately Cheng had to nod. "Yes... it's true... I'm going to kill Scarlett... so that you don't die in this time line..." he admitted. Luana fell to her knees, crying.
Her best friend. A murderer. Cheng had known everything.
"I don't want that. I don't want you to become a murderer because of me! A monster! I want you to live, not sacrifice yourself, damn it!" Lu shouted at his buddy. "But..." the blond tried to contradict. "No! You didn't ask me what I want! You can't change my death, face it!" cursed Lu. A tense silence forced itself between the two of them. Lu and Cheng stared at each other for a moment. "You just live your life, Cheng. If I die, then I die. It's my decision. If you don't accept it..." he closed his eyes, "then you can go too. I don't want to see you here."
Cheng looked at his buddy, startled.
"I wish we'd never met. Then we wouldn't have to go through all this! Why couldn't you just accept my death?" Lu sobbed again. "Because... because... you're my... my only friend..." Cheng faltered.
"I don't need a friend like you! A future murderer...", the statement was like a slap in the face.
"Maybe this was all a mistake... my mistake..." Cheng turned to the door, the rain outside pouring down like crazy. Suddenly a thought dawned on him. "I wish we had never met..."
Now Cheng understood his mistake. Now he knew what he should do. Had to do."I'll straighten everything out. Just give me one last chance..." the blond said as he stepped out into the rain. He turned to Lu and Luana one last time and smiled.
"I'm going to our first meeting... where it all started..."
Then the door closed. The darkness swallowed Cheng. The rain grew louder and louder.
