she looked into his eyes and spoke softly.
“Aan.”
He closed his eyes for a moment, his chest rising as if he had taken his first breath in a long time. Then, without a word, he slipped his arms around her, pulling her into a gentle hug. It wasn’t tight, nor forceful—just firm enough to hold her close.
For a moment, they stood like that, with nothing but silence between them.
She froze for a moment her heart pounded, unsure of what to do next, but his hold remained steady, almost protective. As if, in this quiet kitchen, in the midst of a broken silence, he found something he had been missing for so long.
He broke the hug gently, stepping back and returning to the counter. Picking up the knife, he resumed chopping the vegetables for the pasta, but his focus seemed divided.
His gaze would flicker towards her, lingering for just a second longer than necessary.
She shifted slightly on the slab, feeling both nervous and confused. The warmth of his embrace still lingered around her, and the unexpected gentleness in his actions made her heart flutter in a way she hadn’t felt before. It was strange, familiar and comforting.
Every time he glanced at her, her pulse quickened. She didn’t know why, but something about his gaze made her feel exposed, as if he could see every thought running through her mind.
she lowered her gaze to her hands, fidgeting with the fabric of her clothes. Why was he being so nice? Was this temporary? Or was he truly different from what she had imagined? Questions swirled around in her mind as he continued to cook.
Her heart still racing. She had no idea what to expect next, but for now, she stayed still, watching him.
After finishing the pasta, he plated it carefully and brought it to her. She hesitated for a second, staring at the dish he had prepared.
“Eat,” he said softly.
She took the fork with trembling hands and tasted a small bite. It tasted delicious, and the thought that he made it for her made it feel even more special. She glanced up at him, unsure what to say, and saw him watching her intently.
“Do you like it?” he asked, his eyes not leaving her face.
She nodded, still too overwhelmed to speak, feeling a strange warmth in her chest.
As she took another bite, she glanced at him and then pointed towards the pasta, gesturing for him to eat too her fingers trembling slightly as she held the fork out to him.
For a moment, he didn’t move, just staring at her. Then, to her utter shock, he leaned forward, his eyes locked onto hers, and took a bite from the same fork.
Her breath hitched, a jolt running through her. She had expected him to grab another fork, to keep a distance like everyone else always did. But no, he ate from her fork. She froze, staring at him, heartbeat echoing in her ears.
“What?” he asked, voice low, intense, like he was daring her to look away. There was a dark amusement in his eyes, something dangerous, something possessive.
She quickly shook her head, dropping her gaze as heat crept up her cheeks, overwhelmed and confused. She didn’t know what to make of this man who kept crossing lines she didn’t know existed.
After finishing the meal, he gently took her hand in his, her heart skipped a beat.
“let's go,” he said quietly.
Without another word, he led her out of the kitchen and towards their room. His grip was firm yet gentle, making her feel strangely secure despite her anxiety.
