As the sun set on the last day of their vacation, the golden light shimmered off the waves, casting a beautiful glow over the beach side resort where Sophia and Alexander were staying. It had been a peaceful escape, a rare opportunity for Alexander to take a break from his busy corporate life and for Sophia to relax and forget her troubled past. But just as they were beginning to enjoy their time together, fate decided to throw them into a confrontation they hadn’t anticipated.

Sophia and Alexander were walking back from dinner when they spotted a familiar figure. Marcus, Sophia’s ex-husband, was standing by the resort's main entrance, looking far too comfortable in his flashy clothes and arrogant demeanor. His arm was casually draped around a woman’s waist—a woman Sophia instantly recognized as Lila, the one who had been Marcus’ side affair while they were still married.

Sophia froze, the memories of her painful past rushing back in an overwhelming wave. She felt a mix of emotions—anger, betrayal, and, surprisingly, pity for Marcus. He had ruined their marriage for a life of fleeting thrills.

"Ignore them," Alexander muttered, sensing the tension in Sophia’s body. He gently placed a hand on her back, guiding her towards a quieter path that led away from the resort entrance.

But it was too late.

“Is that… Sophia?” Marcus’s voice rang out, dripping with a smugness that made Sophia cringe. He didn’t recognize Alexander, but there was a spark of envy in his eyes when he saw her walking alongside a man who was clearly more confident, composed, and successful than he ever could be. The last time they met, he felt intimidated by him.

Sophia’s jaw clenched as she tried to keep walking, but Marcus wasn't going to let this chance encounter slip away. "Sophia! Can't imagine you're enjoying yourself here? You’ve moved on so fast," Marcus taunted, his eyes flickering between her and Alexander. Lila leaned against him, smirking, clearly enjoying the chance to rub salt into old wounds.

Alexander, ever the cold and calculated CEO, didn’t react to Marcus’s jabs. His icy demeanor remained unshaken, but there was a tension building behind his calm facade. "We don’t have time for this," he said quietly to Sophia, but she could see the fire in his eyes. He wasn’t one to engage with people he deemed beneath him, especially not someone as irrelevant as Marcus.

But Sophia, unable to stay silent, turned to face Marcus. "What do you want, Marcus? Are you still here to gloat? Or have you realized that ruining my life wasn’t as satisfying as you thought?"

Marcus chuckled, clearly enjoying the attention. "I’m just here enjoying life with Lila. You know, the life you couldn’t handle. But this resort, it’s a bit out of your league, isn’t it? Are you using this guy to bankroll your little vacation?"

Before Sophia could respond, Lila chimed in. "It’s funny, isn’t it? You thought you were so much better, but here we are, in the same place, rubbing shoulders with the rich and powerful."

Sophia’s blood boiled, but she knew getting into a public spat with them wouldn’t be worth it. She turned to leave, but Marcus wasn’t done. "You know, I’m good friends with the owner of this resort," he said arrogantly. "I could have you both kicked out in a second. You don’t belong here, Sophia."

Lila giggled at his side, her fingers lazily running through Marcus's hair as if she was reveling in his supposed power.

Sophia was about to say something, but Alexander subtly placed a hand on her arm, signaling her to let him handle it. Without even looking at Marcus, Alexander pulled out his phone and sent a quick message. His expression didn’t change, his demeanor still ice-cold, but Sophia could sense the shift. There was something about the way he moved that indicated he was in control of the situation.
