~New York City~

I snapped out of my thoughts, hearing the coffee machine stop. Yes, I work at a small cafe bakery, but I love how I make my own. I poured me some in my mug and fixed my breakfast. I was running a bit late when I finished my make up look, so I quickly got dress, turned off the tv, and flicked the lights off, and headed out the door. I walked out from three doors and the lock pad. I walked to the curve and hailed a taxi, "downtown NY University Campus, please." I told the guy, and we made it here in less than twenty minutes. "That'll be thirty-five, miss." I gave him a forty and told him to keep the change as a tip, I got out of the taxi, and felt a shiver go down my spine, i took a look around and didn't see anyone, except a car, that looks similar to the one that's been parking in front of my apartment. I walked into the cafe, which looked fair, "hey, Ellie! Glad you made it in." Ruby said, as I greeted her, walking to the back. "Hey, let me put my stuff away and I'll be back." I went to the back and to another door for the lockers, seeing another worker here. "Hey, Leilah." I smiled at her, "hey, love. You look beautiful as always." Leilah has a Cuban accent, that I love, she's only nineteen and in her first year in at NY University. "How's your morning?" She asked me, "it's been alright so far." I put my stuff in my locker, and we walked to the front. "Okay, Leilah you're on registers for an hour and Ellie, you're on serving for that same hour, I'm on baking for three orders that are ordered for pick up, oh, and I have an interview for a new employee later today, then we will switch."

That's right, we had another employee, but Ruby had to let him go. His name was Pepper, no, that really was his name, he was a total flirt. Apparently, he thought giving out free treats to cute girls would score himself with them; until he would figure out that they were either using him for free stuff or they were in a relationship, also made it seem like he owned the bakery. He did that for two months, until Ruby caught him and fired him right then and there, he was also punched by a guy from flirting with his wife. I wasn't here for either of those days, but Ruby's brother, Maxuel, was, and he showed me on the camera, it was hysterical. "Okay, sounds good." Thats how that hour went, I cleaned tables, served plates while Leilah did drinks on the side. We finally switched, Leilah was in the back baking and Ruby fixed the pickup orders real but still handled the servings. Maxuel came in around one, "your favorite person is here!" I jumped and turned to face him, as he entered the back. "Jeez, Max. Stop doing that!" As I put a palm on my chest, as he laughed as soon as I did too. Maxuel, he is just twenty-one and a darling, he came back from University in Florida, as he wanted a year off for a while. So, he's working with us for the time being, since it is his sister's bakery, she decided to help him out. "Sorry." He gave me a cheekily smile, as he went to the lockers. "Hey, I wanted to ask you, remember that guy you saved a while ago? How did you describe him again?" I set the cookies to the side to cool off, "um, tall, dark and tattoos all over his arms. He has long black hair but shaved off on both sides. Why?" I put in another batch of cookies in, and checked the cooling off, "well, I could have sworn I saw him outside, near a red mustang outside. He was looking like he was glaring towards the shop, almost waiting for someone."

Could it be the same car I saw? No, it's not possible. "Really? It could be a different guy, though." The cookies were now set, and I put them on a tray, ready to be put out. "Yeah, you're probably right." He grabbed the tray for me, "what sucks is that we don't have a good picture of him, at all." I shook my head, laughing a bit, "yeah, it's a shame." He walked out with the tray, while I got another batch of cookies ready, a different flavor this time. "Sixteen minutes, Ellie." Ruby popped her head in, and I gave her a thumbs up, and a smile, "okay, I got it." She left and I let out a sigh, although it's been a while, I have had my mind on the guy, I hope he's doing okay. I haven't told anyone yet, but I have seen the exact red mustang car for a while, at my apartment, on my walks and even here at work. The same one I saw when the guy got ran over, I see it everywhere I go, and I feel not one but some pair of eye's on me. I get chills and weary about it, but I brush it off as if it's my anxiousness, I mean nothing has happened to me, so I think I'm okay. I snapped out of it, again, due to the bell going off. I took them out and cooled them off, "time to rotate, Ellie." Leilah walked in, taking over for the next batch. "Okay, let me wash my hands real fast." Once I did, I walked out to the registers and punched in my number, "what a surprise, the person scheduled for the interview never came in. That's the third one so far, in the last two months." Ruby came near me with a clip board, "it sucks, honestly." She looked out the window, "like yes, having you guys is amazing, but we need another person here, like an extra or two. Seems like no one wants to work these days."

Ruby is only thirty-nine but acts way older for her age, "I was so lucky to get you and Leilah, honestly. Pepper was good, but he wasn't you guys." She set her clip board to the side, "Maybe the person will just flow in, when it's least expected." I spoke to her, as I handed a customer change, "your order will be ready soon." I smiled at her, "thank you, darlin'." She walked to the side, waiting patiently. "I guess you're right, you always are." She smiled at me, "I'm so glad I hired you." She winked at me, walking away to the back. It wasn't always when she gave out complements, but it felt amazing when she did. "Hi, what can I get you started with?" I welcomed a senior in, "oh, Mr. Cleft, your usual?" I asked him, and he gave me a weaken smiled, "yes, please." I loved our regular customers; their orders are the easiest. That's how my next half hour was, until it was time for my lunch at two-thirty, I clocked out told Ruby I'll be back, but I didn't take my lunch, I went to the small library a couple steps away. I, somedays, don't like eating mid-day, honestly, so, I wait until I get home. I was almost to the doors, when I felt eyes on me. I turned slowly, looking around my surroundings, but saw no one staring at me. Everyone was just minding their business, until I spotted a car, the red mustang car. The windows were blacked out, so I couldn't see if anyone was inside, I turned to my sides, looking around again, then walked in. That felt really odd, I checked the time, I have twenty-five minutes left now so I shook off the feeling, and started walking round, to my favorite area, dark romance, (😶) "Sick Boys, by Clarrisa Wild." I spoke out loud, picking up what looks to be an interesting book.

I took out my phone, and looked up what I could find online about it, "Plot Summary: Starting with the three sick boys who run the school. Felix, Alistair and Dylan. They are the reasons her sister's drifted apart from her and eventually died. They are reasons why she broke, and Penelope would not rest until she knew everything about them and made them pay." I read a page I found, I liked it, and it recently became published. "Twenty bucks, I'll take it." I put the books in my arms, looking around. I raised my fingers, gazing the vintage books I found, I was smiling at them then I frown, pausing. I feel their eyes again, they're in here. I felt a shiver go down my spine, okay, it's time to go. I can't even enjoy my short time I have, annoyed I went to the registers. I paid and walked out, lightly jumped as I saw the red mustang park closer, like right in front of the shop. Yup, I needed to get back to the cafe, like now. I turned and walked to the cafe. I heard a bell ring as I walked away, and felt eyes on me again, I was to frighten to turn back, I just kept on my way. The rest of the day went fine, I didn't feel eyes on me at all, "Okay, Ellie, you're first cut. Have a good rest of your day." Ruby said, when I finished the very last batch of today. "Okay, I just got done. I'll just pop them in real fast." I told her and she nodded at me, "Okay, I'll be in front with Max. Leilah will get them out, as she will be cleaning back here." She told me.

I finished, and clocked out, "bye, guys. Have a safe night." I waved them bye and walked out as they waved back. I hailed a taxi as I was still shaken up, and I wasn't taking chances walking. I made it to my place in less than fifteen minutes and paid the taxi man and got in the lock pad and three more doors. I opened my door, and closed it behind me, locking it. I let out a breath of relief, put up my bag on the sofa, then remembered about my new book and that I haven't eaten the whole day, besides breakfast. I took off my shoes, putting them to the side of my door, put up my keys and walked to the kitchen, "left over Chinese it is." I got it out, heated it up and plated it. "Thank God for my lazy days or else I wouldn't have food tonight." I told myself out loud, pulling out my phone and checking my messaged, nothing but no surprise there. As much as my parents got over me moving out here, they were always busy to visit me, as they both run their own business, and what is worse? I am on only child, with few cousins that are a lot older than me, I eventually got used to it when I turned sixteen, I found many friends around me, so I was okay. I washed my plate, set it up and got ready for bed, showered, washed my face and put on shorts short, and a very baggy t-shirt that was my dad's. I turned the living room lights off, and got into my bed with my book, I put soft music for background and started on my book.
