The weeks rolled on, and before long, Olivia and Henry found themselves spending nearly every free moment together in her home. The living room became their favourite spot—the couch serving as a cozy nest where their laughter mingled in the air like sweet music. Henry had become a regular presence in their lives, and Chris had taken to him like a father to a son.
On many nights, while Jen and Chris settled down for sleep, Olivia and Henry would curl up on the couch, the soft glow of the lamps enveloping them in warmth. Tired after long days of school, Olivia treasured these moments with Henry, when the world outside faded into a peaceful silence.
"Tell me something," Henry smirked one evening, his arm draped casually over the back of the couch. "What's your biggest secret you've never told anyone?"
Olivia giggled, her eyes sparkling with mischief. "Well, if I tell you, it won't be a secret anymore, right?"
"Exactly, but wouldn't that make me worthy of the secret?" he teased, leaning in closer, his gaze locked on her.
"Okay, okay!" she replied, feeling her cheeks flush with warmth. "I guess... I was really nervous the first time I kissed you."
Henry raised an eyebrow, clearly amused. "Really? I couldn't tell. You were a natural."
"Oh, please!" Olivia rolled her eyes playfully. "I was probably the most awkward person. My heart felt like it was going to explode!"
"I thought you were perfect," he said softly, tilting his head as he searched her eyes. "And honestly, I like how cute you get when you're shy."
Feeling her heart race, Olivia bit her lip, unsure of how to respond. "Well, you know...part of it is that you make me feel safe," she murmured, her voice dropping slightly as she gazed at him.
"That's good to know," he said, his tone shifting from playful to sincere. "I like being that person for you, Olivia. You mean a lot to me."
As he spoke, Olivia felt a wave of warmth envelop them. It was moments like this, while the world outside their bubble slept, that made her heart soar. The cracks in her confidence faded away; only the two of them existed in that glowing living room.
They shared stolen glances, and the teasing transformed into lingering touches. Soon enough, the atmosphere grew thicker, charged with an intimacy that both thrilled and terrified her.
"Should we risk waking your parents?" Henry murmured, his voice low and containing a hint of mischief.
Olivia glanced towards the hallway, heart racing at the thought. "They're asleep, I'm pretty sure."
"Well then," he said, leaning in until their faces were mere inches apart. "What's stopping us from moving a bit closer?"
Before she could respond, Henry moved slightly closer on the couch, their knees brushing together. The sensation sent shivers down her spine, and she couldn't help but lean into him, feeling the warmth radiate from his body.
"Wow, I can feel the heat," Henry whispered, his breath lightly brushing against her cheek. "What if I taught you something new?"
"What do you mean?" she asked, her heart racing further, a mix of excitement and shyness swirling within her.
Henry tilted his head, a playful smile gracing his lips. "I'm talking about kissing. It's a little more... intense than our first one."
Olivia's eyes widened, both intrigued and shy. "I don't know..." she stammered, her cheeks turning crimson. "What if I mess it up?"
"That's the beauty of it," he said softly, reaching out to tuck a loose strand of hair behind her ear. "You can only learn by trying. I'll be right here with you, every step of the way."
