five. the quest begins
Annabeth walked toward the Calderu boy, her backpack slung comfortably over one shoulder, Raven raised an eyebrow and asked, "You've got everything you need, don't you?" He took a moment to scan the contents of Annabeth's bag, curiosity flickering in his eyes. "Extra clothes? Toothbrush? Knives? You know how important those are."
"Yes, Dad," Annabeth rolled her eyes and scoffed playfully. She stopped just in front of the paler boy. "I'm gonna miss your outbursts while I'm away."
"You'll be fine," Raven said with a warm smile. The Chase girl let out a soft laugh, her expression filled with a mix of surprise and delight, before wrapping her arms around the Calderu boy in a brief embrace. When they stepped back from each other, Raven playfully poked the girl's forehead with his finger, a teasing gesture that drew out another smile from her. "Don't let your mind cloud your judgment all the time," he advised, his voice laced with concern for his Annabeth's tendency to overthink. "And whatever you do, have fun."
"Yeah, 'cause the goal of our quest to find Zeus' master bolt is to have fun," Annabeth remarked with her typical amount of sassiness.
"Exactly," Raven exclaimed, unaware of the sarcasm that she produced. A breeze blew heavily through the air, nearly causing the pale boy to lose his balance. He turned so that the wind would blow in his face, finding that it originated from the pine tree at the tip of camp. "Looks like Thalia wants to say good luck."
"Yeah," Annabeth let out. "I'm gonna go meet with Percy and Grover."
"Okay," Raven nodded his head. The Chase girl brushed past him as she made her way to Thalia's tree. "Be safe!"
"Always!" Annabeth turned to face the boy and backpedaled to prevent herself from stopping again. Afterward, she turned to face forward and continued to the meeting point.
"And she's off," Luke's voice spoke from behind the shorter boy.
"They grow up so fast," Raven stated, putting on a playfully sad expression. The Castellan boy chuckled before wrapping his arms around his boyfriend's waist. "And what will we do while the boss is away?"
"I have a few ideas," Luke said with a thoughtful expression, a spark of excitement lighting up his eyes. He leaned in closer, his warm breath lingering in the air as he gently pressed his lips against Raven's neck, the soft gesture filled with affection and promise.
"Good," Raven replied, a smile touching his lips as he faced Luke. He wrapped his arms around Luke's neck, feeling a warm connection. "We wouldn't want to waste this opportunity, would we?" he asked, his voice low and inviting, lending weight to the moment.
