"you know you shouldn't smoke." a voice said behind him. i turned towards the sound vaguely interested.

"i know." i replied to the blonde approaching. he sat beside me on the railing on the bridge. i stared at our feet hanging over the side comparing our shoes. my fading large boots and his fading small converses.

"it could kill you, you know." he added. i let out a rough chuckle. i took in another drag of the cigarette and blew the smoke out towards him. he scrunched up his face in such a cute, innocent way.

"there are worse things than death." i told him. he tilted his head to the side in confusion. he seemed to be trying to figure out my thoughts.

"like what?" he questioned. i laughed with no humor in my voice.

"it was nice talking to you niall." i put out my cigarette and got off the railing before walking away from the boy.
