I open my eyes and look around, panic sets in when I realize that I have no idea of where I am. The cave was cold and damp, its chill creeping into my bones like the breath of a long-forgotten winter. The air was thick with a heavy aroma, earthy and rich, reminiscent of a forest after a rainstorm, every leaf and blade of grass soaked with the memory of water. As my eyes adjusted to the dim light, I could make out the rough stone walls, veiled in a thick carpet of emerald-green moss that seemed to pulse with life. The texture was almost velvet-like, a soft touch against the jagged, ancient rock beneath. What truly caught my attention, though, were the rocks embedded within the cave walls. They were unlike anything I had ever seen—large clusters of crystal formations that glowed with an unnaturally bright light. Their luminescence painted the cave in shades of azure and amethyst, casting a soothing glow over everything. This light was not harsh or glaring. It was soft, almost alive, creating an atmosphere that was both eerie and strangely comforting. The glow felt like a gentle heartbeat, a silent reassurance that I was not alone in this strange place. I struggle to remember how I ended up here. I try to get to my feet when I realize that my arms are chained behind me. "Hello? Can anyone hear me!? Help me!" I screamed from the top on my lungs. After what felt like hours of waiting, I heard the sound of foot steps approaching. My anxiety shot through the roof not knowing what to expect. Not knowing what i've been dragged into.. From around a wall, a shadowy figure appeared, moving with an ethereal grace that seemed to blend seamlessly with the flickering shadows. As she stepped into the soft glow emitted by the luminescent rocks, her presence became undeniably mesmerizing. Her hair flowed in cascading curls that shimmered like threads of spun gold, catching the light in a halo that framed her face. It wasn't just blonde.. it was the color of the first rays of dawn spilling over a tranquil sea. Her eyes were a deep, mesmerizing blue, vast and endless like the ocean itself, holding stories untold. They were eyes you could get lost in, eyes that promised both wisdom and mystery. Her skin was a flawless porcelain canvas, with a hint of iridescence, as if tiny stars were trapped beneath its surface, shimmering with each of her movements. Her presence radiated an otherworldly beauty that was both captivating and calming. She looked at me with a gentle smile that was comforting as it was enchanting, and when she spoke, her voice carried a melodic quality that wrapped around me like a warm embrace. "I know you must be scared and confused, but please know you are not in any danger." Not in danger I thought to myself. "What do you mean by that, and why am I chained up if I am not in danger anymore?" She smiled, and I felt this wave of calmness take over my body. "Well you and I are two different beings. The boat you were on sank. You and your people were attacked by Sirens. When i got to the wreck, you were the only one left. The rest of your crew I can only assume drowned or were taken as prisoners." My heart started to race again as the memories of what happened started to flash in my head like a bad nightmare. She approached me and knelt by my side and placed her hand on my shoulder. Her touch was soft and gentle. "Im sorry that happened ,and I wish I'd gotten there sooner to save you and your friends." My heart slowed down and I felt relaxed again... her voice, her touch, her smile and most of all her eyes made me feel at peace. "You said earlier you and I are different beings... so what exactly are you?" She ran her hand through my hair as she stood up and walked behind me to my chains. "I'm what you know as a mermaid, but we go by a different name. We call ourselves Nereid's. And my Name is Talya"
