Now I see Daylight...I only see Daylight.
"Damn the daylight..." Said a frustrated Jungkook. He had pulled back the long black curtains of his bedroom window, hoping to see the night sky but the sun still stood mighty proud. The sunrays were the reminder of its great legacy dating back to the Big Bang.If someone had told him 5000 years ago that Earth had twelve hours of day and night, he would've believed it and even experienced it, but right now that was a long lost hope.
Jungkook still remembers the day when panic surged through the whole world. The polar ice caps had melted to the point of no return. He did not really understand the consequences then, but over time, he could feel it.
He could feel the stretch in time, how the day never seemed to end. The news had simply stated that the duration of the day on earth would be more than 24 hours. Honestly, he'd lost count of those hours.
An annoying physics geek had blabbed about how the angular momentum of the earth had decreased due to which earth's rotation got slower. Jungkook gave up listening because it was too late to do anything about it.
If it wasn't for electrical appliances running on solar energy, the survival rate of the remaining human race would be incredibly difficult.
Speaking of the remaining human race, they were the ones with sensory impairments, physical disabilities and orphans, the others had worst fates thanks to warfare and the privileged had left to set up a civilization on some foreign planet. If you were wondering what divide does to people, this is your answer. It filters out the unwanted.
But Jungkook never took it to heart, he genuinely believed that the last group of people to leave the earth were the true definition of 'Survival of the Fittest', an ancient concept. They had lived to experience the result of the scars that the earth had endured all along.
To him, being alone wasn't new so he had convinced himself that being the last person on earth wouldn't be so bad.
Jungkook groans and closes the curtains, his room returning to the same shade of dark he'd seen for years, he assumes this is how night must feel like- cold, comforting and quiet.
He pushed himself to the edge of the bed and stretched out his hand to grab the remote when his door bell rang.
Great. Now he'd have to wake up.
With heroic effort he stood on his feet and walked to the door. As he opened the door, he resisted his urge to eye roll.
It was that Physics geek, drenched in gel? His tie dye shirt almost translucent with sweat.
"Why do you look like that ?"
Jimin enters his flat and huffs, feeling better as the temperature drops slightly around him. He removes his sunglasses.
"It's Sunscreen." He says, it was a self explanatory practice. He plops down on the sofa.
Jungkook sits beside him and switches to a sports channel on the TV.
"You do know you are making it worse right?" Jimin asks.
"Making what worse?" Jungkook replies, nonchalantly.
"The Global warming. Half an hour of this entertainment is gonna release approximately 1 kg of carbon dioxide. You're even utilizing the fridge! Do you even realize the amount of chlorofluorocarbons that thing releases-"
"GOAL!" Jungkook cheered.
Jimin huffs and let's the sofa engulf his figure, Jungkook always ignored him.
While Jimin had the "Let's not make it worse" ideology, one that humans from 5000 years ago clearly lacked, Jungkook had the "What's done is done" attitude and just wanted to live his last moments without dwelling on the mistakes committed by his ancestors.
Jimin switches off the television making Jungkook groan. He turns to the boy who was reading a book.
"Whatcha reading?" Jungkook scoots closer to peek over and tuts. Of course it was Physics.
"Since when did you care?" Jimin replied unfazed.
"Come on, the damage is done, no matter how many books you read, you alone cannot save the Earth, be realistic." Jungkook says.
"We'll do it together then." Jimin replies making Jungkook sigh.
"And how do you plan to do that?" Jungkook asked.
"By building a civilisation underwater." Jimin replies, in a simple tone.
Jungkook snorts, immediately regretting his response choice as Jimin closed his book and looked at him.
That was an indication to him that Jimin was going to talk passionately.
Jungkook felt as if he was being lulled to sleep by Jimin's voice. He wondered when Jimin would understand that he never understood.
Jungkook plugs his ear plugs in and listens to music on his recorder.
Jimin stops mid sentence and sighs. He lightly pokes Jungkook's shoulder but receives no response. He continues reading, although he was a little sulky now.
After a while, Jimin tries again, a little persistent now. Jungkook turns to him.
"What now?" He asks bluntly.
"Didn't you say you wanted to see the sun set?"
