It didn’t take long before the topic on everyone’s lips became the studio's purchase by The Next Step alumni, Eldon and Michelle. With uncertainty hung in the air, the dancers began speculating on how this change would shape their future. No one knew the full extent of what was coming, only that the stakes had never been higher.

The euphoria of winning the biggest competition in the world quickly faded as reality set in. The dancers realized they now had to start thinking about what’s next, and whether staying at the next step would be in their best interest. Not everyone was on the same page about competing again. Some of them, like Kenzie, Pete, Heath, and Ethan, were craving change, having already conquered the pinnacle of success. But out of loyalty to the team, they kept quiet. For now.

Anthony, the new-ish dance captain, had more on his plate than he ever expected. The last time A-Troupe won internationals, they didn’t hold onto the title for long, as they, too, struggled with the introduction of a new alumni to the staff. He was determined not to let that happen again. He needed to defend the team’s hard-earned victory and prove himself as a leader — especially now that Eldon and Michelle had taken over the studio.

The studio had been closed for the past month, allowing the dancers a much-needed break, while Eldon and Michelle renovated the place in hopes of recreating the magic from back in their days. Today marked Anthony’s first day back, as the owners had called in a meeting to discuss the future of a troupe and their game plan for upcoming regionals competition.

It was finally the first day back - for Anthony, that is. Michelle had scheduled a meeting with him and Eldon to discuss the future of the troupe and their upcoming game plan on winning regionals.

Walking into Studio A, a wave of memories swept over Anthony. This was where history was made, where obstacles were overcome, and also where he and Adele finally acknowledged their feelings for one another. His heart swelled, but the warmth was short-lived when he saw Eldon and Michelle deep in conversation in the office.

Anthony entered with a bright smile, his excitement evident. “Hey there, Internationals-winning dance captain and choreographer!” Eldon’s cheer was a little too enthusiastic, and something about it felt off. Anthony noticed Michelle’s subtle eye roll but pushed the thought aside.

“I just wanted to let you know that I’m so ready for this new season. I have so many ideas! I’ve already started choreographing some routines that I’d love to show you—” Anthony's words tumbled out quickly, enthusiasm bubbling over into a breathless rush.

Michelle smiled politely, though her eyes remained serious. “We’re really happy to hear that, Anthony. But I need you to know that there’s going to be some changes around here now that Eldon and I are in charge.” It wasn't hard to tell that something was off with Michelle. Last time she was here, she help keep Eldon in check and brought such a calming vibe to a chaotic environment... but now? It was like she was held against her will and forced to run this place.

Anthony’s stomach tightened. He liked the balance Nick had kept as owner — giving him space but knowing to step in when necessary. But now, with Michelle's attitude seeming firm and unforgiving, and Eldon, who had a reputation for micromanaging and being stuck in his ways, Anthony wasn’t sure that he would live up to their standards. “Different how?”

Before they could answer, a delivery person knocked on the door, holding a clipboard and several heavy boxes. Eldon gestured to Anthony, “Could you step out for a moment? This is confidential.” Anthony nodded and stepped out, feeling slightly uneasy.

As he stood in the pathway, nostalgia hit him like a wave. He loved this place, and standing there made him remember exactly why. For a moment, he felt the urge to burst out into dance, letting loose on the floor while letting the music move him.
