Rory's POV
I put on my apron like I'd been there the entire time
"Rory" says someone behind me
Oh come on I was so close
"Hey Clark" I say
Clark owns the coffe shop
And has for almost 5 years now
"Your late" he says
"Yeah, there was an old lady and I needed to help her cross the street" I lie
"Sure okay then" says Clark obliviously not believing me
He turns around and goes back into the kitchen
———-time jump———
It's been 3 hours and I only have half an hour left before I can go home
A middle aged looking guy walks over
"Hello what can I get you today" I say
"Oh just a cake pop please " he says
I grab a cake pop and put it into a bag
"That will be 3 dollars and 99 cents" I say with a fake smile
"I'm guessing you don't want to be here" the middle aged guy says
"What" I say confused
"A fake smile meaning your probably to tired for a real one " he says
"Oh yeah, I have to have a job to support my family " I say
"Well your good at faking it, I'll give you that" he says with a real smile
"Thanks" I say "what's the name for the order"
"Rick, Rick Riordan" he says
I stare at him
I've heard that name before
"Cash or card" I ask
"Cash" he says handing me the money
With that he took the cake pop and left
I stare at the money he gave me
On top is a white business card
For a audition
"If you want to put that acting talent to good use - Rick Riordan " it says
Except acting is spelled wrong
Which is weird because it's right above where he wrote
——-time jump——
I back up my things to leave work
"Hey Rory tell your mom I say hi" Clark says
"Of course " I say
Clark had always had a thing for my mom
I'm pretty sure it was the only reason I still had this job
I look back at the card Rick Riordan gave me
I had read the writing on it about a hundred times now
But it still felt like I was dreaming
