I woke up with a yawn. I stretched out my arms to the ceiling and pushed the hair out of my face. I grabbed my phone and looked at it. There was a lot of new texts, all from the 'Kayla Rescue' group chat. I sighed and opened up my messages. I then proceeded to read through the past texts. And this is the conversation they had, at like midnight of course, because apparently my friends are nocturnal.
Lilith: That sounds like a good idea!
Henry: Yeah, so meet up at like 10 tomorrow morning?
Lilith: Sure, let's meet at the restaurant by the cliffs, then we can walk down to the beach, then climb into some of the caves around there.
Henry: Good plan.
Lilith: Any other places we should search in the future?
Henry: Maybe the forest.
Lilith: What about that abandoned building that's a few miles out of town?
Henry: That's a good idea too.
Lilith: So, now what?
Henry: I dunno.
Lilith: welllllllllll
Henry: I miss Kayla.
Lilith: Don't we all.
Henry: I mean, of course you miss her, but it's different for me.
Lilith: How?
Henry: It feels like a part of me is gone.
Lilith: Same here.
Henry: Well
Lilith: Well
Henry: Oh nvm
Lilith: What?
Henry: You don't understand.
Lilith: I DONT UNDERSTAND WHAT
Henry: Woah, calm down there, chica
Lilith: Don't you dare call me chica
Henry: Ok, chica
Lilith: STOP WITH THE CHICA
Henry: I'm not gonna stop calling you chica, chica
Lilith: I don't know how Kayla put up with you
Henry: It's because..........honestly, I don't really know why either. But she loved me, so I guess there's a reason.
Lilith: Whatever, I'm going to sleep.
Henry: Goodnight, chica 😋
Lilith: Oh, shut up!
The entire time I read through it, I was laughing. Except during the serious parts, but I cracked up during the chica part. Oh well. I checked the time. Of course, it was 9:30. I had 30 minutes to get up, eat breakfast, get dressed, and get to the restaurant. Great. I hopped out of bed and searched through my closet for some good clothes. I pulled out some leggings and an athletic shirt, I thought they would be good for climbing. I took of my pajamas and put on the outfit I decided on. I pulled on a pair of socks and walked out of my bedroom and to the kitchen. I walked over to the pantry and looked through our breakfast options. Cereal, cereal, or more cereal! How exciting. I pulled out a box of granola and set it on the counter. I closed up the pantry and grabbed a bowl from a cabinet and a spoon out of a drawer. I poured the granola into the bowl and grabbed some milk out of the fridge. I poured the milk over the granola and put the milk and the box of granola back. I picked up my bowl and walked over to the table. I sat down and started eating.
I quickly finished my bowl of granola and washed my dish out in the sink. I put my dish and spoon in the dishwasher and walked to the door. I picked up a pair of tennis shoes and, not bothering to untie the laces, I just slipped on the shoes. I yelled out, "Mom, I'm going to a restaurant with Lilith and Henry, I'll be back by two!"
"Okay, be safe, honey!" I heard my mom call out. Just as I was about to head out the door, I remembered my phone. I ran to my room and picked up my phone, throwing it in my pocket. I dashed back down the hallway and grabbed the car keys. I swung the door open and slammed it behind me as I raced to the car. I opened up the car door and hopped inside, closing the door behind me. I stuck my key in the ignition and I turned it, powering on the car. I buckled up and backed out of the driveway. I drove down the road, and after about a minute, I turned on the radio. And of course, to my luck, it was on commercials.
"Buy your mattresses at our store!"
"Cars cost less here!"
"Free watermelons for purchases of twenty dollars or more!"
And some very annoying jingles alongside random statements that I don't care about at all. Finally, the music turned on. It had a catchy beat and good lyrics, but then right after it started, I got to the restaurant. I groaned and parked the car. I grabbed the keys and walked out of the car and into the restaurant. "A table for one?" The hostess asked as I walked up.
"No, I have some friends," I looked around and I spotted Lilith at a table in the back, "I see one of them over there." The waitress nodded and I walked over to Lilith. I slid into the seat across from her. "Hello!" I greeted, as she had her face stuck in a menu.
"Oh!" She exclaimed, looking up from the menu, "Hi."
"So, what's up?" I asked.
"Nothing much," she replied, "Have you eaten breakfast yet? I know ten is a weird time for that kind of thing."
"I just ate a bowl of granola, so I'll have something," I said.
"Good, then I won't be the only person getting food," she said.
"What about Henry?" I asked.
"He might not have decided to eat anything," she replied.
"True," I said. Then Henry came and joined us.
"Hello," he said as he sat down in the seat next to me.
"Hey," I greeted.
"Hi," Lilith said.
"Are we getting food?" He asked.
"Yeah," Lilith replied.
"Good, because I didn't eat breakfast," he said.
"So what are people getting?" I asked.
"I'm gonna get some pancakes," Lilith said.
"Sounds good, chica," Henry said with a mischevious smile. I started cracking up when I saw Lilith's face.
"Do not call me chica!" She screamed.
"Okay, okay," he said, a smile still plastered on his face. "Chica," he added in a whisper. That made me go hysterical in laughter.
"Just shut up, will you?!" Lilith yelled.
Henry chuckled, "Whatever you want, chica."
"You know what? I'm not even going to try anymore," she muttered. Soon, a waiter came to take our orders. As he took our orders, I realized how familiar he looked. Those bright blue eyes. I knew them from somewhere.
"Miss?" The waiter asked. His voice was very familiar.
I looked up at him, then his eyes widened ever so slightly. "I'll take some hash browns," I said. He nodded and wrote that down on his note pad, still looking at me. When he turned and walked away, he turned around and glanced at me, and I saw a bit of his name tag, but enough to see what his name was. Brian. His name was Brian.
A/N ooooh, what's going to happen next! Anyway, thanks for reading!-Piper
